Renewables are still just scraping by, while we're beholden to dirty fossil fuels. An important history lesson explains why.

I want my tax dollars invested in clean energy development along with energy conservation. Many homes and commercial buildings are under insulated, heated and cooled with inefficient HVAC systems.

That the White House used to have solar panels could be another clue...

I think every new structure should be outfitted with solar panels that not only provide for that house's energy use, but that give back to the grid.

Big Oil has bought just about every candidate every election imaginable since Big Oil first got Big. It's no surprise that our leaders are seemingly so dense about getting this nation off of fossil fuels. They know who pays their way.

One of the 1st things GW Bush did after becoming president was to cut all funding for alternative fuel research. Many of my friends were immediately layed off and we knew we were going to be under the rule of Big Oil more than ever. Watch the free online movie Thrivemovement.com and see the Big Picture.

Well, first of all, Wall street Banksters buy up all the shortsighted and greedy congressmen and senators. Then they dictate to them to do NOTHING to move forward, only to pass bills that make money for the Big Money Crooks.
What I don't understand is why would any self respecting person want to be a politician under those terms. Speaking of terms, the only way to reign is these greedy prats is to set term limits with NO Retirement benefits, and no paid health care.

Thanks Cal for posting Aaron Skirboll's article. Sad tatn we have been enslaved to non-renewable energy by greed. Renewable energy should and must be a top priority for the Federal Government and State Governemtnnts to research and invest in. Read and noted.

#1: $$$ ---> Greedy Oil Party protecting their bosses at THE BIG OIL companies, The Destructive Coal Companies, and The Poisonous Oil companies....

#2: personal laziness and unwillingness to invest in the new technologies.......too many I know won't pay the extra few dollars to support wind energy, hybrid or electric technology, etc.............and of course, its harder to change than support the new......

I forgot politics....what if Mr. Reagan had left the solar panels on The White House 30 years ago????

Easy answer. Big oil money got their prostitutes (congress/presidents/supremes) to campaign & vote against any and all environmental/climate/health issues. It's all about GREED AND PROFIT.

There is no question, the Reagan administration left was oil dependent. It is interesting to note, no where in this article was Clinton's 8 years in office mentioned. He could have overturned a lot of the dependency, but he didn't.
Bush as Clinton, followed Reagan's policies in oil production.

Sadly, greed and laziness is older than America. Forms of solar energy have been known for centuries. Archamedies saved his town from an attacking Roman Army. He burned the ships carrying Roman soldiers to the waterline with concentrated solar thermal; in other words mirrors. Passive solar design was incorporated into many cultures until the society discovered any other easier (fossil) fuel source. That Humans are lazy and short sighted is now no excuse not to take action. WE HAVE NO CHOICE! The entire planet is on the brink. Read the part about companies that will put solar panels on your roof with NO up front costs to you. Kristen H is right. I you do not own a house then you can still Write a letter to the editor or your senator. IT IS TIME TO BE OUTRAGED ABOUT OUR ENVIRONMENT!!!!!

The Need for Greed! Big Oil paid to get their way with our money at the pumps, home and tax deductible campaign funds. They have the government under their control. The XL pipe-line will be built along with five others that are already being built. New wells are being built for fracking, knowing all of the hazards it can cause and is causing!

Those Americans who let themselves get tricked into voting for Reagan in 1980 should have taken a harder look at the issue of renewable energy, among many others. Such as the treasonous funny business between the Reagan campaign and the Iranian government (Arms for Hostages), which cost Carter the election and set renewable energy in the US back decades.
