Oil exploration will probably begin in Alaskan waters this summer, according to a top U.S. official, with more lease sales likely in the next four years.

We need to get Ken Salazar out of office. He has devastated our wild horse, bison and wolves all so ranchers can put their cattle on OUR public lands. Now he seems to be going after all the ocean wildlife so a few people can make a ton of money.

NO, NO, NO.......we can't let this happen. The government and Shell Oil, are nothing but GREEDY ASS WIPES, that don't care about all the destruction this is going to cause. All they care about is PROFIT and they can talk out of there ASSES all they want, they are NOT going to do everything they can to prevent an oil spill. This would be cutting into there profit. And this is what is going to oil spill, sooner or later this is what we can look for. They don't care about polluting the water, air or killing the wildlife and making people sick or even killing them. Obama needs to get his head out of his ass and put a STOP to this before it is TOO late. Man has destroyed everything he has touched and he will not stop until he completely destroys what is left. And then he will look back and wonder what happened. DUH. This is why we have global warming.....DESTRUCTION of the planet. of opportunity is no more. GREED AND STUPIDITY have moved in to stay. And as the saying goes, you can't fix stupid. So I guess we will all have to sit back and watch while the government runs everything into the ground (literally). It is a shame that the people don't have a say on what goes on in the world!!!!!!!!!!!

"do everything possible to proceed safely and responsibly" and to be ready "in the event of an incident."
I'm sure that means Shell will be ready with their paper towels to mop up the oil in the event of an "incident"!

This president just loves shoving his agenda down our throats. And what happens when the inevitable spill does happen? Then what, Mr president? Who will save the arctic and it's inhabitants? BP?

Nonetheless, Salazar contends Shell is committed to safety, from its updated emergency plans to a new oil-spill containment device it successfully tested Monday in Puget Sound. Along with other recent safety measures, the company has convinced Salazar it can handle a worst-case scenario like the 2010 Gulf oil spill.

If Shell is so committed to safety and cleaning up after a disaster, how do they and Salazar explain all the mess that remains unattended in Shell sites around the world and we all know that the new device will be successfully tested, that is until it fails the first time it is used, not to worry someone else will have to take the blame as it certainly won't be Shells fault or Mr gullible Salazar.

"I believe there will not be an oil spill," he tells the New York Times. "If there is, I think the response capability is there to arrest the problem very quickly and minimize damage. If I were not confident that would happen, I would not let the permits go forward."

Yep! and the Sun and the Moon will change places tomorrow.
