A phony CIA vaccination program used to help track down Osama bin Laden leads militant leaders to ban a polio vaccination campaign in Pakistan's Waziristan regions.

Then turn the program over to Doctors Without Borders, they have no political agenda and in today's world there is no reason to not prevent Polio. It will cripple and kill, people have forgotten how Polio devastates lives.

Isn't it time we learned to think of the children first and not allow our politics to impact on them??!!

OH, GOOD GRIEF! Kit's right....although I fear they'll just find another reason to stop it. They CANNOT loose this devastating disease on the world!

I like Kit's suggestion as a starting-point, but it needs a little refinement.

The trouble comes from a few sources: DWB is a primarily Western organization. Whenever ruthless militias have demands, western aid-workers make for great hostages. The militias controlling the region are ruthless, as can be seen by their willingness to deny their children polio-vaccination. Also, the militias may not trust DWB's neutrality. Perhaps a local organization could do what is needed, or local doctors working under the Red Crescent.

Agree with you totally, Heidi.

The truth is that children probably do suffer most from warfare. They have done nothing to provoke it, and can do nothing to protect themselves. The world and its leaders have hardened their hearts to their suffering. How the hell can they do this?

A pox on what the CIA does so often.

And a pox on the Taliban who've admitted the ban's in retaliation for drone attacks and won't allow vaccination until they stop. They're willing and able to punish their own children if it'll get them some political gain. They can't've had any real expectation that the drone attacks'll stop just because of this. They're meanly grandstanding and children're suffering and they're cutting off the children's noses to spite the face of the U.S.
