I don't watch him.

Who cares? It's none of my business, and doesn't affect my life. He does his job, and that's really all that matters. This is about as relevant as Reverend Al Sharpton announcing that he is a black minister. When most of the Fox crew announce they are dumb as bricks - let me know. Still not something we don't know, but that would at least be fun.

I think there are more important issues...but good for him!

It DOES matter, actually.

We need every well-known gay person to "come out" so that homophobes can actually SEE/understand how many there are! I'll bet money that many sweet little Christian ladies had NO IDEA about Anderson and his announcement just MIGHT make them think about it. Let's hope so, anyway.

Kit....LOL about Fox ... dumb as bricks!

Pam....really? Does anyone not know that Anderson Cooper is a gay man? If so they live under bridges, and wear blinders.

I think I was surprised to learn that Chet Huntley and David Brinkley had never met one another, not once. Other than that, celebrities don't offer up many surprises. They live, eat, marry, have children, or choose an alternate life style, get ill and die. Sounds like the rest of us.

Bigots will always find a reason to justify their bigotry.

So true Kit. As far as Cooper's coming out, this was unsurprising as Ricky Martin, or even Elton John in the 80's.

Thanks Cal!

Always knew this, and still love the guy! Anderson is one of the best...and I adore his giggle...Sad for all of the women out there, but Way to go Anderson!

I couldn't care less. It's his problem and not something any of us should be concerned about.

some of the ignorant can be moved by personal stories from people they admire, respect or love into support for LGBTQ rights and inclusion...and that has contributed to the changing levels of support over time in the US and other parts of the world

Surprised that Anderson Cooper is gay? Why would anyone be surprised as it's been such an "open" secret for a number of years. I am glad that he has officially come out so the younger generation of the LBGT community can look at him, along with other famous and important members of our community, and see that they too can succeed in life and be proud of who they are. Thanks Cal for posting the link to the article. Read and noted.

Always figured he was gay. His business and no one else's and doesn't affect how I view his work. Anyone's a right to choose to open their private life to the world if they've a mind to, just as they've a right to keep their public and private lives separate. One of the other people I've always respected and admired, James Randi, recently 'came out' in his 80's - I always supposed he was gay and anyone who knew him personally knew it. With another of my favorites I've also made that assumption. But if that's true he's one of the ones who's chosen, at least so far, to keep it private. Since it's irrelevant to what he does in this world, he's a right to have that disinclination respected by the public. Outing people's ugly.

This was not only the worst kept secret but does it really matter? Gay or straight, we all have the right to live our lives in a way that makes us feel fulfilled. I hope his new found freedom to be who he is in public gives him great happiness.

Obviously, this is a STINKING, DISGUSTING AD!
Please, when you see such STINKING, DISGUSTING ADS, please click on "flag as inappropriate".
A Care2 staff member should take care of it.

You can also go to the "person's" Profile: there is a "flag as inappropriate" at the lower right-hand corner.
In this case, as in many others, THE PROFILE DOES NOT EXIST.
These are, obviously, NOT REAL CARE2 MEMBERS.
The expression "amazing surprise" suggests to me THIS COULD BE A VIRUS.
It ONLY TAKES A MOMENT to "flag as inappropriate".
Doing so makes you A GOOD CARE2 CITIZEN. We must ALL work together to keep threads from being INFESTED! Care2 by itself can't seem to stop them.....

As others have said "who didn't know" . For his own peace of mind perhaps he just had to say it. He is a brilliant man, comfortable with the way he was born. For those of you who do not care, fine. I care.

Wow. This is going to ruin my whole day. /sarcasm

In short, who cares? As long as he does his job and harms nobody, what difference does it make?

For those of us who aren't American and don't follow their celebrities, it was nice to see Anderson state that love isn't wasted and is gay. There are still far too many people who regard it as a problem or an affliction. Too many people condemn someone for not being what they believe a man's man should be. Even a man's man can be gay!

Well, I guess I'm the one who's 'as dumb as bricks' because I had no idea Anderson was gay. I love Anderson he's a great host and I watch his talk show on my local ABC station, Anderson Cooper every day...I'm just sick and tired of the re-runs.

Well, that's nice that he "informed the public"---for those who didn't know, maybe it will give some the courage to come forward themselves. Many of our younger adults may still be ostracized, and this could make them feel as though they're not alone....so, all in all, it's a good thing.

Who cares if someone is gay. It's nunya. Nunya business. The world is grossly overpopulated as it is.

So What? Most people already knew. Being Gay or straight these days is like saying someone is bald or has brown hair. Nothing to get all excited about.

I was confused about this because I thought he was already out.

I think it's even more interesting that Frank Ocean, from the hip-hop group Odd Future, came out recently, especially because of some of the prevalent homophobia in hip-hop. That he's already gotten support from some of his peers shows that there could be some progress in getting away from the negative and backward thinking in that genre.

It's not insignificant when celebrities do this because it sets an example for others to be themselves and not to hide who they are because they might fear how others would judge them, and I think this does concern us, even though some might deny it, because it is good to know about others' and to be aware of the differences in order to build respect.

If someone in any of our lives is inspired by this to either come out as LGBT, that can help them to live more comfortably so that they're not hiding and denying who they are, and that is a good thing.

Seemingly a very nice guy. Didn't know he was gay but then I don't get out much. He provides a nice role model for young LGBT people and the more that do that the better.

It is great that he came out. What is more wonderful though is that he is an example as a great news reporter, the fact that he is gay should have no bearing on this.

I don't understand why anyone has to declare their sexual orientation. It's no one's business.

So what? But now, if the Fox bunch admitted they're dumb as bricks? That would be amazing! We already know that, of course, but them admitting it would be so refreshing...
