According to the documents, the DOE was going to charge Southern Company a credit subsidy fee of between half of one percent and 1.5 percent, well below the rates that DOE has charged other companies

what's one more little sweet deal for colossus nuclear industry ?

" The nuclear energy industry only exists thanks to what insurance experts call the "mother of all subsidies. " -- The Nuclear Cost Shell Game

" nuclear power stations are not insurable. "

e.g. in U$A, " the United States government guarantees the insurance... [by] what is called the Price-Anderson Act "

In 2011, German insurance experts estimated that any reasonable insurance for nukes would cost more per kWh produced than what *(private!)consumers* here pay for electricity

We are required to have insurance on our cars and on our homes...then, the nuclear industry should be required to carry insurance.

Unbelievable...Nope guess not actually!

The San Onefre Nuke Plant here in California has shut down often, yet it opened again, and there have been dead sea creatures washing ashore in that area.

An time bomb just ticking!

All conscious folks know, nuclear is bad business due to the potentials of disaster of unimaginable proportions. Very unfortunate they are so entangled as to not be able to simply close down. A big, fat waste of our tax dollars, underhanded business transactions and an accident waiting to happen....that's nuclear energy in a nut shell!!

one more type of irresponsible subsidy at taxpayers' expense--is there a provision in any proposed legislation to close this type of loophole?

Drop interest n student loans if we can afford to give lower interest loans elsewhere, subsidize environmentally devastating companies, animal industries, land and water theft, deforestation, and waste that wipes out the American Bison, wolf, etc. We must speak with our dollars.
