I am not sure that being an actual "pirate" is good for his cause. Fleeing authorities is going to damage is reputation and slow down what he is trying to accomplish for marine mammals around the globe.

We know what the Japanese do to whales...I am sure what they would do to Watson would be just as severe!...They would also try to find some loophole with the I.W.C. too so they would not appear as guilty as they are!!!

The dirtbag is just another ecoterrorist. The fact that he is afraid to face his accusers proves that. He knows that he broke the law and is too much of a coward to pay the piper.

If that ecoterrorist and his ilk want to help our sea life, then let them get the proper certifications and legal authority to do so. Until then they are nothing more than ecoterrorists or, at best, vigilantes. NEither of which justifies their actions and neither of which justifies his cowardly evasion of the law.

I cant believe the way they are treating Captain Paul Watson they act as if he's a terrorist or did something worse than murder. To have a bail at over a quarter of a million dollars and to have to report to the police station twice a day is a JOKE! And just goes to show us how much they are afraid of him and the Sea Shepherds, this also tells me that the Sea Shepherds are really making a difference!Go Captain GO!!!Thanks for posting this Cal its the best news ive gotten all day ;) GLADLY NOTED!!!

Read & noted, thanks Cal! Good for you, Paul Watson!:) I fully support & honor you for skipping out, you definitely did the right thing. I am, & always have been, a fan of anyone who stands up for what they believe in, for all the rebels with passionate causes, for the underdogs, for anyone who is willing to take a chance, & stand up to the law, especially when the laws are broken, or non-existant. If they had their way, they'd put Paul behind bars for a very long time, how convenient would that be for the animal killers!? They are afraid, & they should be, the world's army of animal advocates is growing by leaps & bounds, everyday! Watch out!

Note to Christopher Fowler, One needs to be a "vigilante, or eco-terrorist", as you say, in order to stop the poachers, who are the REAL cowards, the real guilty ones, & more times than not, killing illegally & taking way too much, as in, over fishing/hunting, or, in the case of "certain cultures", not educated enough to know better, change their ways, or advance into the 21st century! I support anyone who stands up against that. If one must fish or hunt, then do it in a sustainable, humane, environmentally friendly way.

Well, isn't that strange!?? I left two comments on this post, & neither have shown up? Well, I support & admire Paul Watson for fleeing, so he could get back into action, saving whales, rather than sitting in jail or fighting in court! We all know getting through all the red tape could take forever! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! :)

the Japanese government may have sought extradition of Captain Watson to Japan to answer charges related to obstructing their illegal whaling activities," she said.

++++++++++++++++++ You can bring someone to court because they stop you from doing something illegal?

We can think of many people who SHOULD be in jail - but Paul Watson is not one of them. Glad he has flown the coop - he is a great human being and everyone who has a love for our wildlife -all animals in fact - should throw their support behind him.
WHO CARES WHAT THAT REDNECK CHRIS FOWLER THINKS!!!! HIS VOICE IS LOST IN THE SUPPORT THAT PAUL ENGENDERS.

Paul Watson has my greatest respect and admiration, sad that these charges are taken serious, illegal whaling activities should be fined and prosecuted, but sadly criminal activities are supported !!!

I want a duplicate of Jules Verne's 'Nautilus' submarine. The bow spike would be a great tool to open up Japanese whaling ships with from the bottom. Congrats, Sea Shepherd. Germany should not have had authority to charge bail to the man, nor should Japan or other whale-killing nations have any authority to arrest Sea Shepherd personnel. I recall that time a USA sub surfaced under a Japanese whaling or fishing boat accidentally; the act should be repeated under their whaling fleet. The whale population can tolerate a few Arctic native tribes engaging in subsistence fishing and using the entire animal; they should be subject to no more commercialised unnecessary killing.

what a world we live in. an act of humanity against cruelty to animals for reasons of profit leading to prison- paul watson i love you for what you have done for these animals - run for your life and I wish you'll have

I think Paul Watson did the right thing by skipping bail. It is untelling what Japan would do to him, if they get there hands on him. Watson did nothing wrong. He was just trying to stop illegal whaling. This is not a crime. They are the ones that should be in prison, NOT Paul Watson. He was showing compassion for the whales, thats more than the Japanese would do. They have NO compassion for animals. All they know is CRUELTY. Paul Watson....run as fast as you can and don't look back. You are a HERO in our eyes!!!!

I'd like to send a star to most of the commenters here. (minus two) Captain Watson does the right thing and I wish him all the best. Sent letters to the German gov. to let him free. No reply, as expected. Those accusations by Honduras are fake and utter BS.

Go for it Paul. Good on you. I am surprised at Germany doing this.
You are our HERO & have our support always. For all the years we've been involved with animal issues, you truly should be awarded the highest support and accolades ever. I wish you & the team all the success in the world. Keep safe to continue the good work you all do. Of such importance.

All Paul Watson is doing is trying to save whales from illegal whaling! And he remains steadfast in his courage and his purpose to do so and others who are the ones that are breaking international treaties are trying to put him in jail so that they can continue with their illegal activities and show their ignorance and disdain for the conservation of these marine mammals who are so endangered! Captain Watson, you have my admiration for your courage and your dedication to such a noble cause! God be with you to protect all of his great creation and stop those who would do them such harm.

Cree Prophecy:
When all the trees have been cut down,
When all the animals have been hunted,
When all the waters are polluted,
When all the air is unsafe to breathe,
Only then will you discover
You cannot eat money.

In the face of insanity, insane moves must be made.

Governments going after a hero like Paul Watson show how corporations have taken over the world, including ""laws"".

The real terrorists here are the people sworn to uphold the law but taking bribes and doing the bidding of corporations instead.

Of course it was political and it's payback from the Costa Rican government for the film makers managing to retain a certain amount of film cassettes that they turned into a documentary This film convictis the Costa Rican government of collusion in support of illegal fshark finning among other things. Be well Cap'n.

My comment on the same story posted by someone else: - To the nay-sayers I say what Paul himself has said many times, he works tirelessly to save the oceans, and in doing so saves the human race, he does this for ALL of us, including all the people who actively work against him, those who are too ignorant to see the truth. However I doubt those particular people will ever say so much as a word of thanks to this unsung hero, and will continue to criticise, sit back, and never lift a finger to help. Thank you for looking out for all of us, Paul. Praying for your safety, oh Captain, my Captain.
