It is our duty as people to stop this bloodshed of innocent civilians.

It seems to me the more countries support and arm the so called rebels, the more killing there will be - just maybe if every one had looked after their own borders and stopped trying to make the world in to what they want it to be this would have been over long ago with less killing.
I read today 4 soldiers was captured by the rebels tortured then shot ? I also wonder why the rebels are killing from peoples homes putting the innocent in mortal danger ? and the world does not expect the army to retaliate, there is a lot wrong on both sides, I for one am not taking any side it is typical evil warmongering human behavior - I have travelled in the area, and one thing is for sure strong leadership and strict laws are required to maintain peace, they have different values to us Westerners/ Europeans. I am NOW staying out of it. End Of

The Syrian rebels gain public support through a campaign of fear. This is their form of democracy... shoot everyone who speaks out against you, and then... behold! The public supports us!

Russia and the US are at opposite poles when it comes to Syria. Russia supports and arms the Syrian government and the US covertly supports and arms the rebels. This is a great example of a proxy war that can and probably will expand until there is a direct confrontation which will herald world war 3. Russia, China, Iran and Syria versus the US, Great Britain and France. Others will inevitable join the fray on both sides with weapons escalating up to and including the most deadly ever created.

A petition on this issue was started quite some time ago on AVAAZ. I checked out the site, ForceChange, and noted that every writer is an American, and a huge percentage of the issues and petitions are internal american issues. There is nothing wrong with that, but as a non-American, I prefer signing up with more diverse groups.

For this to be of any good all arms shipments to ALL sides, groups, factions must cease. I feel there is great danger in assuming it is a black and white picture in Syria. There appears to be a lot going on behind the scenes that we may not be aware of. A lot of chef's stirring the pot.
I wish we were societies who revered master peacemakers instead of munitions...

What gives any entity the right to proclaim that a leader of a country, no matter what the form of government needs to go? Shouldn't it be up o the majority of the people in a country to decide a leader's fate whether it's through the ballot box, or mass demonstrations like those that took place in Egypt and Yemen.

The reason for the civil strife is that the US, Israel, and other western powers wanted a repeat of the Libya scenario. Russia, China, and other members of the security council like South Africa, Brazil, witnessing the duplicity of the NATO led assault on civilians are not going along with regime change in Syria.

Now that Annan has resigned, that NATO forces will no doubt ramp up it forces of aggression and support of the rebels. Assad, learning from the lesson of Libya will no doubt resort to an all out assault against anyone he precieves as trying to overthrow his government. This time with help from Russia, China, and Iran.

Instead of signing a statement to cut of weapons to Assad, you need to analyze the situation in the hope of preventing a possible third world war by stopping all arms to everyone. But history shows that those who cry for war the most are usually reluctant to engage themselves or their sons and daughters. The name for you are chicken hawks. Or cowards dressed as wolves.
