Investigations showed that less than half of the sewage produced by this global information technology hub was being managed in modern treatment plants, with the rest ending up as raw, untreated sewage in the city's lakes and wetlands.

Humans, they are polluting the world with their FILTH, and they dare call some animals vermin - the only vermin I have ever seen comes on two legs and walks upright, it is causing more pollution than all other animals put together.

If there are solutions,as the last sentence states, India has needed to deal with this 20 years ago;it has now reached a crisis point.
From people I know who have been to India's villages, they dig large cess pools where the people in the village relieve themselves. When the hole is filled, they dig another one. How can one even fully comprehend living like this?

This is a terrible situation. They are working towards a solution but it isn't fast enough. How can we help?

I don't know which is worse China or India. They're probably the 1 and 2 polluters on the list.

Thanks Cal--those of us who live in "developed" nations probably do not appreciate the horror others find in their everyday lives.

not only waste - i recently saw a program about an asbestos mine with no safeguards for workers or the surrounding neighbourhoods, and where people are dying slowly of asbestosis. is it possible the mine is owned by a canadian company?
why do we think we can offload our toxic behaviours onto poor communities who lack the resources to defend themselves? it will come back to bits us - we are one planet.
