A congressional deal announced this week by House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid would extend current government spending levels for six months, putting off threats of a government shutdown until after the November election

Why? Were there death threats related to the "threats of government shutdown"??

Well hallelujah! Will wonders never cease. Of course it wasn't for the benefit of the people, but self interest as in re-election for some.

I found this comment amusing, "None have any chance of winning Senate approval, prompting Harris to ask reporters: "How many times do you expect us to bang our head against the wall?"

There's an answer to that question: at least 33 times. That's the standard THEY set. That's the number of times the House Republicans chose to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Perhaps the frequency with which they find themselves having to "bang their heads against the wall" explains their brain-addled behavior...

Makes sense: A Democrat-controlled Senate rejected every budget-cutting proposal they made. Now, rather than bother continuing futile attempts to negotiate with Democrats and compromise, they're just going to wait until they take the Senate and can force everything through. Polls currently predict that the Republicans will hold majorities among governors, in the House, and Senate after the election. senate Democrats really, really should have compromised when they could still do so from a position of strength and gone for deals on which Republicans would not.renege after the election.

Makes sense that the Democrats in the Senate were unwilling to restore the Defense cuts the GOP agreed to if the bipartisan commission didn't reach consensus. Just glad the GOP isn't holding the budget hostage again and wrecking havoc on the economy and stock market like that action did in the past.

I guess getting our economy down graded once was enough? Can't do it in an election year? How did the right become a monster vulture? Fox?
