While some "ex-gay" leaders say they no longer believe sexual orientation can change, their organizations are just as dangerous as ever.

They might just as well pray for left-handers to become right-handed.

Why can't they be praying about child molesters, women abusers and drug addicts (not that I think prayers are the answer to these problems in society)?

"..once identified as gay and is now in a heterosexual marriage."
Wonder how that's working for him - lol

If anything could be prayed away, homophobes, racists and teabaggers would have been long gone!

To bad you can't pray away bigotry or intolerance. Thanks Cal for posting the Alternet article by By Kristin Rawls. Read and noted. Thanks Cal.

People are born this way! Pray way gay? Maybe they should really work at praying away, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, all Cancers, all birth defects, any disease that harms or cripples people. Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual or Transgender people are finally being accepted as just people with a different sexual orientation, let them be. If you just have to pray, try praying for things are not of a political nature.

Huh "pray away gay" ?!? Really this is the stupiest thing I have heard in a long time. And believe me I have heard some stupid things.
These people kind of ignorant scared me...Why do we even give them our time ?

Why don’t these jesus jockeys pray for the compassion they are lacking?

I'm with Kit...."praying away gay" makes as much sense as praying for people's HAIR or EYE COLOR to change! Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Why don't these idiots mind their own business and, instead, pray for TOLERANCE among the "godly?"

They should pray for actual causes and not for something which is part of human nature. Human sexuality has a very wide spectrum and all orientations should be accepted as natural and not discriminated against!

What next, pink triangles and concentration camps?

If all they do is pray, the rest of us could tolerate it. Unfortunately, they often go to great lengths to persecute and damage those with different sexual orientations.

I really was more fascinated by the people who would be willing to live a straight lifestyle, yet, still have an attraction for me. Men who believe in their religion attend these groups because of guilt, and being ashamed. These organization take advantage of these emotional weaknesses, and tell them this is possible.
These are the most ultra closeted men I can think of.

Is anyone surprised by this? Could heterosexuals pray away their identity, use psychotherapy to change it, or lobotomize it away (like earlier times)? These pseudo Christians use their judgments and mis-characterizations of people to make themselves feel righteous and better than the "other".

It worked for Markus Bachmann...umm...never mind. I've seen bonfires that aren't as flaming as he is.

There are many forms of conversion therapy, and they all failed miserably.

Why can't they pray for things like the end to homelessness, child & domestic violence, no more starving children or elderly?
Noted with great disgust!

What a bunch of crap! Yet somehow I am not surprised. They make anyone who has faith look bad. They also pick on those struggling with their own sexuality and mess with their heads. These "leaders" should have their own heads checked. Idiots! Maybe they should pray for brains??

Here is a true example of sheer stupidity and hate regarding a group of people who cannot help what they are. One is BORN gay, but people like this are too stupid and stubborn to learn that that is true. It is not evil to be gay, but I tell you this, I would rather be gay than be one of those praying idiots depicted. .

I see I am among good company here.
This belief is useless, as is praying altogether. If your imaginary friend is omniscient, all wise, etc. and god works in mysterious ways, praying as a matter of petition for change is kind of a slap in the face of god (if one existed). The petitioner is basically saying, I know better about this than you do god so please make things differently, as in the way I see it.

To believe that one can change someone's sexuality, which is a biological thing as opposed to a matter of choice, is to patently believe that indoctrination of someone's intellect will produce physical states to alter themselves. Science continues to debunk such claims of phenomena all the time.

When it works, and it usually does for only a short period of time, it is simply because indoctrination can produce intellectual changes to support a different kind of behavior. It usually also produces psychological trauma as the individual spends a lot of time and energy pretending to be something it is not. This is not a healthy practice, but then when I consider the source, I shrug because this is the best their principles can do. Once dogma enters the picture, the door to intellect is shut very tightly in the closed position.

Why Chick-fil-A Boycott is NOT a "Free Speech" issue.
[If Chick-Fil-A’s President, Dan Cathy, were using his personal fortune and fame to back his anti-gay beliefs, we could not hold the Corporation accountable.]

By renewing a contract with Chick-Fil-A, any service, for example at a college -- or a high school! -- would indirectly provide guaranteed financial support to the following organizations, by way of the Chick-Fil-A WinShape Foundation:
1. The radical-right-wing group Eagle Forum, which supports LGBT people being considered criminals.

2. Exodus International, which claims to “cure homosexuality” through psychological coercion of LGBT people, a tactic that has been condemned by the APA and is considered harmful to LGBT individuals.

3. Focus on the Family (FOF) and its off-shoot group, Family Research Council (FRC), which has been designated as a hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center. FOF aggressively defames LGBT people as a threat to children and FRC spent $25,000 to stop the US Congress from condemning Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” policy that would execute all gay people.

[If you are not aware of the FINE WORK of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the SPLC, you should be! They started in the '60's as part of the Civil Rights Movement to enfranchise Black people in the deepest South. They now keep track of Hate Groups and keep updating the info they gather. They have a Website you can go to -- and should go to! and you can receive e-mail up-dates from them.]

There is a PUSH now, to GET CHICK-FIL-A OFF OF COLLEGE CAMPUSES -- where for gosh sakes, there are LGBT students!!! Also, my gawd, Chick-Fil-A is in SOME HIGH SCHOOLS -- bad nutrition for the students, among other things! Also there is the attempt to prevent Sick-fil-A from entering NEW venues; as well as to not renew its licenses.

PLEASE GO TO; then go to Gay Rights; then go to Recent.
You will find SCORES of Petitions from various venues, Colleges and Shopping Malls and at least one High School! 60+ Petitions; and more every day! I think I have signed them ALL. You don't have to live in the area, to sign.

Why must they waste their time praying for inequality? I cannot understand these people.

They should've used their time volunteering for causes
