Egyptian troops and helicopter gunships killed about 20 suspected Islamic extremists Wednesday after militants ambushed a string of army checkpoints overnight in the northern Sinai peninsula near the Israeli border, according to the government.

This is a perfect example why I don't approve of the war in Iraq. Just let them work out among themselves. We could have used all that money to build new bridges & schools.

Egypt needs to cooperate with Israel to keep a lid on these Islamic lunatics. They don't care who they kill.

I find the specific positions replaced to be worrisome.

Having his own guy as intelligence-chief would allow Morsi to fabricate reports in a way Bush couldn't have done in 2003. Having his own guy running the military police sets up for a purge of political opponents within the military. Having his own guy as governor of the border-region allows him to turn a blind eye to whatever militias he wants over there.

Then again, it is entirely possible that the replacements are just for the reasons given and nothing troubling will come of them. The personnel-situation demands watching, but not any serious reaction right now, I don't think.
