We can all do our part to create clean beaches for everyone to enjoy, cleaner water for fish and marine wildlife, and a healthier ocean for those whose lives depend on it. But it's going to take all of us coming together to make it happen.

There should be no trash in the first place. It is just irresponsible.
I remember enjoying the pristine beaches in Belgium. Not even a cigarette but to be seen anywhere. Maybe it is not like that now. Maybe they have more Australian and American tourist now.

OF COURSE. But we can do more....know a youth group? Have them clean up trash! Belong to an adult service group? Have them pick up trash! Have access to an internet "meet up" group? Well...you know what to do....

For me and my husband everyday is clean-up day. It angers us that parents and the schools, public broadcasts, news,TV etc. do not make it a priority to teach the generations why it is so important to keep are neighborhoods, waters, skies free from garbage and polutants. I walk my dogs and make it my business to clean up after them but most of the time I end up using the bag to fill with plastic bottles, paper, styrofoam containers, glass bottles, fast food left overs. That sound sickening, does'nt it. On the bike trail picking up after the lazy pigs. My husband is 100 time more passionate about this same subject than me. He deserves payment for the garbage he picks up in and out of our neighborhood. And we don't live in a trashy neighborhood. I am getting tired of picking up after others. What ever happen to ticketing for littering. There is not enough garbage cans in all parks. That is part of the problem.

Thank You for Taking the Pledge

Ocean trash is a problem we can only solve by working togetheróeach of us doing our part to reduce our trash impact and clean up what's out there now. Thanks for taking the first step and pledging to take on the trash.

Best way to help alleviate ocean trash problems would be to:
1) Quit killing and mutilating sharks. They're nature's ocean garbagemen!
2) Reduce litter on shore. Whether it's using 're-usable' grocery bags, picking up litter near your path when walking, or diverting more of your home trash to recycle, we can reduce our total 'junk in the river' without too much difficulty.

Besides signing to pick up thie trash, we need to promise not to litter in the first place. There are canisters everywhere you go that for recycleable; glass, cans, etc. Plus there's are ones for plastic/non recycleable items. I just hope people will think about how they dispose of items in the future. Thanks Cal

Took the pledge! Each person who avoids the animal industries does more to save every element, every life, every aspect of Mother Earth than do all other things combined (Radioactive materials also must be banned permanently everywhere)

Dianne K. they are not "lazy pigs" ,they are lazy humans. Please do not insult pigs who do not make trash. IT annoys me when people use animals to describe the negative attributes of people it i insulting to the animals and somehow takes the responsibility off the humans.

Anyway, I pick up trash but I will stop for plastic bags if i see them. They may be sitting on the ground when I see them but they could fly to the ocean (I live in Boston which is on the water). I never take them at the store myself but always seem to have plenty to recycle. Sometimes I'll bring in 20 a week which is insane and that is just a fraction of the bags that are out there.

I wont go into a rant that i just made on another story about plastic in the our oceans.

people are disgusting and lazy and I think recycling should be mandatory and there should be litter police for the beaches and elsewhere.
People are just lazy and just DONT CARE. maybe its time we made them care about something other than themselves.
Its crazy as my friend will pick up garbage while walking her dog, BAGS of it, yet she wont recycle....blows my already confused mind
thanks!
