US Politics & Gov't  (tags: usa )

Republicans in the U.S. House, including Todd Akin and Paul Ryan, are blocking the expanded authority that tribal police need to deal with violent non-Indian offenders of Native American women on Indian land.

And so the fight continues. How very sad the GOP is taking the side it has chosen.

It is not surprising that the unethical GOP takes the side it does.
This is a great shame for America. Any civilized nation must recoil from any nation that has deliberately made native women victims of sexual and other violence by non native Americans. This has to be stopped. How else can the USA regain self respect?

"The GOP-controlled House, however, omitted the protections for Indian women in its version of the bill."

This IS their misogynistic platform. And how it is implemented, piecemeal, denying, degrading and taking away the rights of small groups of women to begin with, then emboldened, broadening their attack to larger groups. This bunch is no better for women than Sharia and I believe in their hearts, had they the power, they would, as the infamous harpy, Ann Coulter, suggests end with rolling back suffrage, reducing women to property with no independent rights. The men of the gop, and their few female followers, are as anti woman as any Sharia ruled country, with slightly less barbarity. So far.

PR in his VP presidential address touched upon"..We will not try to replace our founding principles, we will reapply our founding principles. Such apparent racism from the GOP. Should we all refer to PR and MR as "massa". Is it any wonder that there are some many countries who have challenges working with the US.

It just boggles the mind that in the 21st century the GOP wants to drag us backwards to the dark ages of abuse. Native Americans have a legal RIGHT to the SAME justice as the rest of the nation. We simply can't afford to let these ignorant, hateful clowns take over. PLEASE VOTE!!!!

Rape is rape and the rapist should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Native or non-native a person is a person and no one deserves to be raped or beaten in order to make some cheap, empty suit feel powerful; when they have no power over their own life. BTW both parties serve the Corporatist Masters.

I listened to him awhile. Everything he stated as a fact was a huge, blatant lie. Obama got the $720bil from medicare fraud clean up. Something the republicans NEVER cared to do. He turned it back to close the donut hole. DUH!
Bush started Solindra as a trap. They do that a lot. Obama was just naive as to how bad Bush (mabus) screwed up the world economy and tried to keep it viable. Truth.

The republicans are proving to our nation that you can indeed, lie over and over and fool just enough spectator voters to allow them to steel elections right in front of our faces!

Republicans don't care about our overflowing population. None of us! Jobs, economy? Too late. They are in the end stages of the great looting. Our economy WAS the $24 trillion circulating amongst the majority. It's stashed away and the right has stashed all of it. The economy we knew is gone. Stolen in a 2000, 4th reich coup.

"Democracy is not a spectator sport. Get active. Occupy something. write your congress person. Vote."
You're right in front of the only tool you need.

Watch FDR warn us about what I just stated...

Fascism propaganda is real, alive and well. The people are divided. The bad guys are winning.

Here's my reply to all of the contribution emails...

We're soo broke. It's always BEEN an emergency but no one would say it. The media/shadow government still has control. Every major news cast has some degree of instilling liberal hate. It's time for desperate measures. Right now. This election will be stolen. They aren't hiding one of their dirty tricks. 2012 doom better be real because we're plunging to a very dark, desperate place. 10 times worse than the 1st great depression.

Raise your hand if you think Obama should declare a state of emergency and stop the upcoming election and return us back to paper trail, verifiable voting?

"Ryan and the GOP Revictimizing Native Women for Political Purposes"..duh! It's what They Do! But Native American women should know it's "not a racial thing" - RepubliCONs hate All Women! Though I do think they get an extra thrill at victimizing non-white women..:(

Reading about those guys made me throw up just a little. We know they take a platform that is built upon misogyny and hatred of anybody else they look down upon but their hatred and ignorance still manages tro astound me...sometimes. A vote for the GOP is a vote to continue the downfall of this country and the attacks on its non 1% citizens.

The Native Americans have been treated like trash for so long that I am not at all surprised by the Republican response to VAWA. I signed a petition for this act and got a response from Rand Paul that it was an unnecessary expenditure in this time of economic trouble. Of course it is unnecessary, he is a white, privileged male.

Shadow governement. NWO..
I wish in my heart that men would stand with women and help be their protectors. I hate how women are treated and mistreated. I hate what the Indian women have to go through with no justice on their side. I hate the deaf ears their cries fall on.
Where is all this Christianity and crying out against sharia law? Women should be honored and respected and left for trash.
Tjhe tea party are making themselves heard.. bragging their concepts are being listened to by the republican party and the party is dancing to their tune.
The tunes they are singing are very unhealthy and nothing to brag about.
America again is in dire straits and a in a bad time.
Teach the males to honor the women and protect them.
If the many are not taught.. consider you are being taught as I write and others as well.
There is right and wrong. Wrong is is how badly women are treated.
It has to change and change now.

First off Im a Native Woman, Cherokee born and raised on the Tahlequah Reservation in Oklahoma. And second, "why the hell does it matter if the woman in native or not?" Oh yeah..I forgot we are the forgotten ones, the puck of society. So I guess using US poor native women when trying to prove a point is acceptable..NOT..It seems that racism has become an okay topic by politician's and the attack on women has just gotten way out of hand. You know Im stunned, It appears all the work women have accomplished in recent years has been flushed down the toilet. Well ladies, it's up to US to stand up and not take it anymore.
I swear I don't trust ANY politician. They seem to be all speaking with forked tongues.

This is ludicrous. Crime on reservations often spills over the borders as does crime in bordering off-reservation communities. I worked for a Tribal department for decades and had County Deputy commissions for over 20 years. Those county commissions gave me authority over the non-natives on the Reservation and authority off of the Reservation when needed. It is a system that worked for both the Reservation and the counties involved. If handled at the Tribal and State (county) level and proper certifications are obtained, cross-deputization agreements can be made that obviate the need for the support of fools like Ryan.

Thank you for your work Kevin. You have a grip on the level of authority needed. A grip on how to treat any woman is sorely missing in GOP politics. But why the American Indians (including me a few generations back) are always at the end of the road can only be racism and/or bigotry.

Racist: Someone that makes judgment based on race and not on facts or achievement.
Bigot: Someone prejudiced or openly against someone with ideas or lifestyles different than his'.
Prejudice: To make judgment before knowing the facts.
