- Royal Dutch Shell on Monday was moving its drill ship off a prospect in the Chukchi Sea, a day after drilling began 70 miles off the Alaska coast because sea ice was moving toward the vessel.

Be nice if the sea ice would just mow them down. Now what happens when sea ice moves toward a rig in the sea? Did anybody think of that before letting these invaders in thee? BOYCOTT SHELL!! I have been doing that for a long time!

I'd like to believe that Big Oil worries about the safety of its crews, but it's more likely that they worry more about their expensive equipment and potential lawsuits. We all know that they don't worry about the environment.

Shell or any other oil company has no idea how to drill safely in the Arctic. I almost choked on my coffee when I read that line in the article. I am so annoyed with Obama for allowing them drill and then for allowing them to drill when their spill containment ship is miles away. That is just plain stupid and dangerous.

25 m thick ice moving around the seas, heading for winter, and the Shell ship hasn't passed its safety requirements but has had them waived..... start praying everyone!!

I'm as anti-drilling as anyone...possibly more so.

BUT....until we have more dependable alternatives, our options are more oil from the Arabs (how do you like that?) or extract oil ourselves (which means some drilling) or cut down on production and triple our gas costs.

Which one do YOU prefer?

This is NOT a simple issue.

How pathetically ironic that a giant piece of moving sea ice, probably due to global warming, will shut down Shell's off-shore drilling.

Yea. I hope it stops forever.

Hope they stop all drilling in the oceans. There is oil on land and these companies have drilling rights for about 90% of the USA, but they want to go on public lands and the oceans to drill.

In my dream scenario their equipment gets frozen in - forever - after the crew is safe of course.

shell dont give a stuff about anything only profits.ask the nigerians one of their people was hung in public at the behest of shell. ask the people in the west of Ireland who were jailed for protesting.the Irish gov.allowed this because their buddies in the former gov, sold the rights for personel gain.the new gov. upheld this travesty of justice because they have their noses in the same troff.where ever shell turns up there is problems. dont support any shell products until they listen.

unfortunately so much other stuff going on in the world that this is low on Mr. Obama's radar right now, but I hope that the arctic/ice would do some major damage before Shell/greed/selfishness destroys them.....
