As gender-based violence across India becomes more frequent, and more savage, increasing numbers of women are speaking out against the cruelty.

This is horrible. The more that it's brought to light, the sooner the world can help bring it to an end.

This is very sad news. Usually the reason men commit these crimes is that they aren't worried about the consequences. Perhaps the law in India needs to be much tougher.

Noted, thanks Cal. Perhaps males in India, are sub-conciously worried about the 'status quo' they have held for many hundreds perhaps thousands of cultural years, and are resorting to what many males & some females, seem to know best for immediate results - violence. Power and control are addictive indoctrinations, as can be indoctrinated slavery. Social structures of humans are subject to change. Maybe it's time. The strata layers of human societies in India, and other countries/cultures, make for very complex interactions. Females can defend themselves if the laws of the society (primarily male/caste/religion constructed) allow them defense. If not, subtle defenses/offense are needed until positions of individual and social control/parameters are established. Positive thoughts to you females of India and around the planet. Balance in this precious world is needed.

Women are the scapegoats in most societies. As men's power slips in the world they destroy, they look for something to give that power back. Oppressing women is quick, old answer.

"The main cause is an entrenched feudal, patriarchal mindset that refuses to regard women as independent, autonomous and equal human beings."

This system cannot be antiquated fast enough. It was a great picture of all the Indian Women demonstrating against these crimes. Women will no longer be bound by these old practices, as the World moves into balance, (please hurry World:)).

Noted, Thank you Cal.

As long as the perpetrators of these crimes know that the authorities aren't really interested in pursuing them the numbers of incidents will continue to rise. The government, both local and national, have to ensure that the police are doing everything in their power to take victims seriously and find the criminals. A male
dominated society does not have to mean a female subjugated society!

Noted with sadness for the women of India. The patriarchal males have been entrenched in this way of thinking forever it seems, with wanting dowries when they marry and wanting only male babies. Women are not equal human beings and they like it that way. The violence against women is now with the younger generation of males, but I just signed a petition for Malala of Pakistan who fought, struggled, and ignored the male dominant society to get an education and stood up for women's rights. She wil be deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadly she is in hospital, but is recovering after being shot coming home from school. Women, stay together and fight for your rights! The world is watching India's Government to make changes!!

Rather than being sad try sending some money to NGOs and charities who are working hard to tackle these evil problems. Typical western washing of your hands because you posted something on a webiste saying you dont agree with what is happening.
