The elections were a real blow to the rightist government of President Sebastián Piñera, a businessman who three years ago displaced the center-left Concertacion coalition that had led Chile since the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship ended in 1989.

Great article and congratulations to these new women leaders. It's about time to leave Pinochet and his nasty history in the past. Good for Chile, moving forward.

At last. Chile has suffered enough. Remember Paul Ryan has been so thrilled by the right wing social engineering experiments there that had plunged the country into abject poverty (Except for those that were ultra rich already).
At last Chile can move away from fascism.

It's difficult to understand but I hope the women stay away from the policies that have killed the US. Trickle down doesn't work.

Perhaps the different gender will think of children and family first, and recognize the power of compassion, and the danger of corporate $'s!

Great news for Chile. I wish this country had more women in politics without agendas, twisted moral views, or the ability to see what is happening in the world. One woman stands out- Condy Rice.
If Obama had any sense, he would offer her an ambassadorship at the very least. She does not like him personally, but she has shown herself to be an extremely capable woman.
