Trees are the lungs of the world, we need to plant more and save what we have already.

Noted gladly with thanks to you Cal for providing this article, which I have saved! There is a lot of information in this article and different Canadian sites - particularly the petition: Take It Taller for the Great Bear Rainforest which Endbridge with the Governments approval is planning to put a pipeline through from the Tar Sands in Alberta to Kitimat, B.C. I know that there are a lot of activists fighting with the First Nations to have this stopped. Loved the pictures of Clayoute(sp)Plover Sound, home of the red salmon, and Three First Nations tribes that have joined together. Of course they want their land and the ocean protected as it has been their livelihood for centuries, never taking more than they needed.
I find it hard to put up with the Federal Government cutting back on Environmental costs, especially as only 8% of our magnificent forests are protected.

There is a lot of money in trees. Greed cuts them.

Sustainable logging is easy to achieve. Cut a tree, plant a tree. The problem is illegal logging and poaching, and cutting down forests for pasture land, soy farms and palm oil, et al. Forests are the lungs of our planet earth, and when they are gone so go we all.

It is important to save forests and other wilderness. To achieve this, I think that humanity needs changes to the economy to make it environmentally sustainable. I like many of the ideas promoted by CASSE at http://steadystate.org to achieve this. I encourage everyone to consider signing the position statement at that site.

The point about the burger indirectly destroying forest was very pertinent.
Another extremely good reason to cut down or give up eating meat.

Plant trees and don't forget that we can trade our butterflies for trees -perhaps the most worthwhile cause we can support.

for decades we have taken and taken from the earth and not given back. We are now at a critical point where we need to start giving back. Starting with limiting the number of humans on this earth is a good start.

Seems so obvious to me. No trees, no life on the planet. Fewer trees, bigger problems for everyone and everything.
