Climate change received scant attention in the election campaign. But with public concern about global warming growing in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, President Obama has an unprecedented opportunity to take bold action on climate and clean energy

I'll be happy if he takes ANY positive action. I am tired of our government ignoring this issue!

For Obama to make headway with reducing greenhouse gas emissions, he will need popular support. People have to protest, write letters, sign petitions and make life choices that will diminish the rate of climate change.
to get some idea of the enormity of what is going on with climate change, google:

EXPRESSING GLOBAL WARMING AS AN INDEX FIGURE OF THE ENERGY EQUIVALENT TO THE DETONATION OF X NUMBER OF HIROSHIMA BOMBS PER SECOND.
Then multiply it by the number of seconds in a year. That is how much excess energy is retained in our atmosphere, land and sea due to excessive build up of man made greenhouse gases.

right now: http://climaterealityproject.org/ should be going on. tune in!

Here is something else that is important:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=Qp-nJKBwQR4&feature=endscreen it' about how to talk to a climate change denier.

"President Obama should use his bully pulpit and organize the government’s various energy efficiency programs to launch a national campaign on energy productivity. He should establish the goal of making the U.S. the most energy efficient industrial economy in the world."

I've been saying this for years. Since watching An Inconvenient Truth in 2005, though the idea has been in me much longer. If we could, once, establish something like the Manhattan Project, why can we not do it again? This time with a peaceful purpose, the development of a green alternative fuel source, cheap, reliable and non destructive. If we could learn to split the atom, isn't it possible we can learn to put one together that will give us not destructive power, but clean sustainable power? This is the most pressing issue, of I agree many, that we face. This is the top priority in my opinion because ignoring climate change will wipe the planet of most oxygen based life, if not all. And the years leading up to that mass extinction will not be pretty. Can we afford a $50 billion cleanup every few months until then? Can the world? Because this is a global issue and the consequences of ignoring this issue are going to affect every part of this planet as it cleanses itself of the poisons we have so cavalierly spewed into our air, water and soil. Many climatologists already believe it is too late, and it certainly IS if we do nothing more than we have done, which is wring our hands and clean up after Nature. The people of the world are aware, are ready and it is time our leaders get that way too. Past time. We need begin now, what could be more important than the survival of our species? As well as the survival of all oxygen-based species who had no part in creating the calamity we all now face? We argue fine points of agreements and do nothing, we fight over religion - and I promise you NO religion will prevent what is coming, and we squabble over policies when the only policy that can save us is ACTION, and now, right now. Not in 2020. Now.

Noted, thanks, Cal. *I'm sorry I'm unable to send another green star to Gene because I sent one in the past week.
And...yes, Alexandra, I will be among those sending letters, e.mails, petitions to Pres. Obama and my Congress critters to address climate change. I'm with many others who are against all dirty energy...stop fracking, dirty oil pipelines, nuclear energy, coal....we must concentrate on research and funding for wind, solar and all other types of potential green energy. We must spread the word everywhere can & educate those who are unaware.

I would be happy when Obama makes up his mind he would actually do a follow through and not change it the next day.

Guys, not holding my breath on this. Obama might figure out how to take care of it, but it will either come out of a budget for seniors, or something else making the people end up paying up the wazoo.
Obama got his 4 more years, now I would really like to see some change finally. My granddaughter told me about this site. I was very angry when I read some of the articles that were posted since I didn't know some things that were going on just reading the paper, but saw them here posted on Care2. I was Madder than an Hornet when Obama said No drilling, then caved in. In my humble opinion, Obama is just a ton of empty speeches and hot air.
