The killing of rhinoceroses has escalated dramatically, especially in South Africa, which is home to 75 percent of the world's rhino population. The slaughter is being orchestrated by brazen, highly organized gangs that smuggle the rhinos' horns to black

I can't understand why people keep spending so much money buying someting that doesn't even work. Why can't we make those idiots believe that the ground up fingernails of humans can do the job they think the rhino horn can? It is just so sad that humans are such stupid fools. I am ashamed to be a member of the human race !!

I am a huge fan of an eye for an eye.
Hunt and kill all hunters, poachers and all other arseholes involved in this murderous trade and sale of goods re these magnificent animals

Tragic. The poachers greed will result in the extinction of rhinos if more isn't done to stop them and anyone caught with any product from a rhino.

Personally, I would have preferred a bullet to the back of the head, but 40 years is a pleasantly surprising sentence. Kudos to the judge. Apparently he, too, is sick and tired of hearing about the decimation of Africa's last rhinos.

Everyone who has a part in this horror is the scum of the earth and should be treated as such. I am against the death penalty per se but I'm thinking if it was given to these insufferable animal murderers, maybe it would be an effective deterrent to the rest of the morons who value money above all else. Is this the legacy you want for future generations? Of course you don't give a rat's arse about that, do you? Humans stink, I am thoroughly ashamed to be one.

Noted, tweeted, tweeted, share. Just another dirty example of man's ignorance, cruelty, greed and blood lust. Shame on anyone who does and shame on anyone who buys the products.

Africa has proven they can't protect the rhino so they need to give them to a country that will protect them with their armies who will shoot the poachers to kill. Once the rhino's are gone, they are gone forever. I thought at one time they thought they could poison the horns so those that got them, would die.

It is time to declare "war" on the poachers and their moiney trails!!...I can't remember which Premeir, but she said last week, that she is ready to send in Military Special forces to stop this once and for al...as it is almost too late!!!!!!

Noted, shared to FB..the plight of these magnificent animals is heart-rendering..the horn of the rhino consists of the same substances as the human fingernail..for heaven's sake if you "need" an aphrodisiac - chew your fingernails! Idiots! I despise the stupidity of mankind...

Noted - I cannot tell you enough how this affects me here in SA - I am so ashamed of our country for allowing this to go on and on. I am having a tattoo done on my arm on Saturday, along with hopefully hundreds of others - it is a rhino awareness campaign. I have never had one before and I told my son that if it meant having my whole body tattooed to save the rhino I would do it. These wicked pieces of scum get off too lightly as do those who buy it. They should all be lined up in front of a firing squad.

This is the most heartbreaking article I've read in a long time.
China, always china, what's wrong with that country?
THE REAL CULPRITS ARE THE BUYERS and they get off scott free.

I am ashamed to call myself a human.
The people who kill rhino's and buy the horns deserve to die a slow death and realize what they've done.

Noted. Maybe if all rhinos were dehorned by wild life rangers then the poachers and the buyers would not beniefit from this hiddious crime.

Dan & Tina - rhino horns are also highly valued as dagger handles in Yemen.

It is a sign, like an expensive vehicle, an advertisement of machismo (spanish for "maleness")

This is your species.
