Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is not happy that the government might have to actually convict a suspected terrorist of a crime before locking them up forever and throwing away the key.

This is one of the most important stories! I was ashamed when this country began its torture tactics to join a select few nations in the world as proponents of crimes against humanity!!!! This makes me a man without a country - when Bush the twig started this - he opened a can of worms reversing the direction of the country and changing its character altogether - I call these people the traitors of America - he should be punished as should the previous reich that enacted this foul business -- I'm furious that Obama has not brought these radicals to justice, closed Guantanamo and actually had the audacity to propose the NDAA --- he wasn't listening to his constituency -- as a result our morals of war have collapsed - people like Graham and too many others - are endorsing tactics that preclude fascism, one would think we'd have learned from history - not to repeat the mistakes of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy!!!

In case you don’t remember, section 1021 of the NDAA, which Obama signed into law on December 31 of last year, allows the government to lock up U.S. citizens indefinitely without a trial, so I thought you would be happy that there is some bi-partisan support.

Good grief. Everyone should have a fair right to face their charges and have a trial!

Lindsey Graham is showing his right of fanatical evangelical right wingnut side in his contemplated amendment. To paraphrase an ages old saying, democracy must be seen to be done in order to be done.

From Mother Jones --- "Instead, these groups [civil liberties and human rights groups] are backing amendments from Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) that would ensure that any person—citizen or otherwise—apprehended on US soil could not be deprived of their freedom without due process of law. You know, like it says in the Constitution."

That is the way it should be. I suspect that, should this amendment make it to Mr Obama's desk, he would readily sign it. I think he felt like he was over a barrel last year, which is possibly why he delayed as long as possible before signing the NDAA.

I believe, truly I do, that Sen. Lindsey Graham is a
terrorist and should be locked up indefinitely. Does
that count? Didn't think so...........

That's true - only if you actually believe in the
Constitution which Mr. Graham, apparently
does - NOT.

obama already has a law in place to lock people up with no trial and no lawyer. he "promised" not to use it.
for all we know he has been locking people up all over the place. we have no way of knowing since they will just disappear. sounds like soviet russia doesn't it? maybe china?
it sure isn't the usa.
can't blame this on the gop since this is obama's law.

Just another great reason why Republicans don't have the best view of America or the world in their minds. Torture is rediculous, war is bad enough as it is. I also understand that sometimes war does need to happen, but that's beside the point. Also, it's one thing to capture a suspected terrorist as a POW but its another thing to torture him. Also, Billie C. who said that "Obama already has a law in place to lock up people with no trial and no lawyer" is absolutely, 100% in the wrong. Obama has reveresed Bush's endorsement of torture tactics, which is one of the reasons why European and Asian leaders like him so much.

The south is full of stupid and SC has more than it's share....what happened with Bradley Manning is disgusting. That Mr. Graham thinks like this is even more disgusting.

If you think times are tough and difficult now for the average citizen who can't find work just wait. By the end of the last quarter in 2013 we will experience a major recession. When resources such as money, food and water become scarce people revert to the lost tier of human behavior. Morals and ethics for the most part fly out the window as people try to survive at all costs. If this scenario is allowed to develop fully the POTUS could declare martial law. What did they think those FEMA camps are for? Of course it depends upon what they do to avoid this. Perhaps Mr. Graham and others like him should experience first hand the conditions he/she would place the average citizen under?

What the hell made these guys say, yea, fascism looks okay to me?

This is because of the long arm of fox hate. It gets in your brain and devours all common sense. Now, more than ever, the GOP must die.

Fascism Has Come to America Courtesy of the GOP | America For Purchase
Fascism - A right-wing system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator So while U.S. Corporations are getting a sweet ride from the GOP, all the tax money they should be There has to be accountability and these would be fascists must be stopped, and their pillaging and...

Jason R is so right about the "Right" America, broadly speaking, has always been a an extreme right wing Fascist oriented country. Any country whose citizens identify with believing in an omnipotent God has to be, by definition, anti Democratic. Ultimately they believe in a supreme DICTATOR. This in itself orientates the thinking in the direction of "My way or no way". We all, to a greater or lesser degree, believe we have the solution to all man's problems.Atheists believe that religion is not the answer, and they can point to thousands of years of repeated failures. Unfortunately we also cannot really expect that the unenlightened will agree with our solutions, nor we with theirs.

There's absolutely nothing fascist about smaller government intervention in our lives and fiscal responsibility. What would the liberals like in its place? A nanny state? Entitlements running at 75%? More corporations taking their business offshore? What is it the liberals really envision for America? Having the majority of Americans receiving food stamps, on medicaid and living in government housing? Would you be happy if we had open borders and anybody and everybody could move to America and the taxpayers should be thrilled to pay them social security, pay for their healthcare, daycare and provide them with jobs while tax paying Americans are out of work?

Be careful what you wish for.

Immigration needs to be very closely watch. There are many enemies of Western way of life let in. We have a GOP that wants everybody on soup lines and in dire poverty. But the GOP fears are misplaced. The admission of foreign nationals who can work cheap is not a way to increase American employment. Nor is to gut safety net programs. The important part will be a state and federal job consortium. With changes to the tax code to allow people to take job hunt deduction in new careers.
We need to rebuild housing so it become heterogeneous in economic classes. Technology is on the cusp of ending many more jobs that used to exist. Our educational system is a wreck and has not moved into the information age. The student loan program is a failure for the economy. It needs to be junked replaced by something better perhaps a two to four year work for the society in national service which other countries do have. Then student loan debt free debt new members of the educated working class could be an engine that drives the economy.

Scott, you are adequately describing a socialist America. Won't happen, pal. As soon as we get Obama out of the White House in 2016 we'll get back to personal responsibility Americans who pay for their educations, an investment in their futures, so that they won't be a burden on society. No thank you...I would never want America mirroring a socialist country.

Obama won by a slime margin in November. The problem in America today is that we have raised our children to believe that the government needs to take care of them. In a recent poll, it showed that over 52% of democrats believe in socialism. A much smaller number of republicans also believed in socialism. We need to fix that. Let those who believe in socialism move to another country and try it out for two or three years and then come back and let us know how it worked for them. It's the same as being satisfied with three square meals a day, a nice mattress and a blanket and canned goods in the pantry. Americans are use to getting an education, a good job and that translates into get government out of our way and leave us alone to live our own lives.

Diane, I'm not at all sure you know what socialism is. A case in point is the ACA. You look at a health care bill, one that is far less comprehensive than Nixon's, one that depends entirely on private insurance firms and healthcare delivered by private providers and you call it socialist. I knew Amereica was in trouble when I saw that "Keep your government hands off my MediCare". People with strong opinions and comprehensive ignorance.

Prior to WWII, higher education was almost exclusively the province of the rich. Folowing WWII, the GI Bill made education available to the rest of America, paving the way for the technological revolution that soon followed. Skimping on education is the trademark of the Third World, The vision you have for America is a nation of serfs. The American public has been getting mugged by the GOP for the last 30 years. You think getting mugged and a lack of personal responsibility are the same thing.

GOP pundits were predicting a 330+ electoral "landslide" for Romney. Obama won 332 electoral votes and 8 pf nine battleground states. Why is 330 electoral votes a landslide for Romney and a squeaker for Obama?

"There's absolutely nothing fascist about smaller government intervention in our lives"

Yet, the party that you defend loves cameras on us all the time. They love war. They expand government and run up debt as a tool, to say nothing when they do it while screaming bloody murder when their mess forces more debt by their opposition.
Tell us all about smaller government with its loss of consumer protections and looting of our economy, Diane. Throw in the power grabs the right loves to lie about.

Now is when you say, you don't understand what you're saying, Jason and spout more fox propaganda. MG, what an old scenario. Repeating itself like the definition of insanity that it is. Your bubble keeps you from learning anything outside of it. Inside is just a fantasy.

Lindsey Graham, LOL... And this is to Diane O...I seem to remember you out here ranting and raving saying that Obama was going to get his butt kicked in the Election...So what happened there, darlin? lol Now you've got the balls to say when we get Obama out of office in 2016...Well, Duh! You or the Republicans aren't getting him out of office...Term limits are...So why don't you just go back into your bubble, and plot and plan, how the Tea Party Republicans will get Obama out in 2016...You should be embarrassed by your Party, but go continue to watch Fox News, so maybe you'll feel a little batter, but please don't come out here, and mouth their propaganda, you just make yourself sound crazy...

Michael, yes, that was me. However, I direct you once again to this election and the fact that Obama won by a very slim margin. The House picked up nine seats. It was a very close race. Obama won. But know this.....49% of Americans did NOT vote to re-elect him. It was a win for him but not by much. We now have a country divided perhaps more so than before.

The rest of your commenst to me is emotional and childish.

Gloria, you might want to do your research on the laws in our country and terrorism. There's absolutely no reason to give these murderers an American trial. They should've gone before a military GITMO. However, Obama hasn't moved forward on that and they're still sitting there four years later under Obama. Obama "leads from behind" and will stay as far away from making a decision as he can. He'll send someone else out to do his job.

Diane who keeps saying Obama won by a slim margin - second is still second. Obama won, Romney did not. Obama scored the highest percentage of the vote of any Democrat since Lyndon Johnson, and racked up the most votes for a Democratic president in the history of the United States (the only one to receive more votes than Obama was ... Obama, in '08!). He is the first Democrat to get more than 50% of the vote twice in a row since Franklin D. Roosevelt. But that is all moot at this point - you continue to wish for as Wayne said, a serfdom - I always search for just one ounce of compassion in you and always find none. I do feel sorry for you.

No the rest of my comment to you was fact, Diane...You just are the one who's being childish, by not admitting that Obama kicked Mitt's ass...I believe the final result was 51% to 47%, killed him in the Electorial Vote, and close to 6 Million in the popular vote...You got to except it, just like I had to accept George Bush...You can make up any excuse you want to make yourself feel better, but your guy lost...You and Fox just have to accept it...

Diane. Will this make you better understand our "extreme views"?
1956 Republican party platform...
"On its Centennial, the Republican Party again calls to the minds of all Americans the great truth first spoken by Abraham Lincoln: "The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate and individual capacities. But in all that people can individually do as well for themselves, Government ought not to interfere."

Our great President Dwight D. Eisenhower has counseled us further: "In all those things which deal with people, be liberal, be human. In all those things which deal with people's money, or their economy, or their form of government, be conservative."

While jealously guarding the free institutions and preserving the principles upon which our Republic was founded and has flourished, the purpose of the Republican Party is to establish and maintain a peaceful world and build at home a dynamic prosperity in which every citizen fairly shares.

We shall ever build anew, that our children and their children, without distinction because of race, creed or color, may know the blessings of our free land.

We believe that basic to governmental integrity are unimpeachable ethical standards and irreproachable personal conduct by all people in government. We shall continue our insistence on honesty as an indispensable requirement of public service. We shall continue to root out corruption whenever and wherever it appears.

We are proud of and shall continue our far-reaching and sound advances in matters of basic human needs—expansion of social security—broadened coverage in unemployment insurance —improved housing—and better health protection for all our people. We are determined that our government remain warmly responsive to the urgent social and economic problems of our people.

To these beliefs we commit ourselves as we present this record and declare our goals for the future.

Nearly four years ago when the people of this Nation entrusted their Government to President Eisenhower and the Republican Party, we were locked in a costly and stalemated war. Now we have an honorable peace, which has stopped the bitter toll in casualties and resources, ended depressing wartime restraints, curbed the runaway inflation and unleashed the boundless energy of our people to forge forward on the road to progress. "

You see! Republicans USED to be moderate progressives. Now they're a bunch of bat sh*t, crazy, Karl Rove 4th reich, Nazis! Like you!

What was wrong with that sound thinking? It worked for ALL of us. When Reagan began the destruction of our country, people started saying, "I would be a Republican if they would". No one says that anymore.
