This is more than the expected Right-wing short-sightedness and environmental disregard. Chris W. may be right...the protected status of the caribou may be interfering with plans for that God-forsaken pipeline. Good insight.

Thanks Cal for posting the link to the article. The full 375,000 acres of critical habitat need to be designated and not the meager 30,000 acres proposed. Read and noted with sadness.

"This decision came in response to a petition from an anti-environment law firm, Pacific Legal Foundation, along with Bonners County and the Idaho State Snowmobile Association."

Well, of course it warrants the ironically named Fish and Wildlife Service to take another look as to whether these animals should remain protected. They're obviously in the way of the snowmobiles. How the hell has this been allowed to happen? Damn caribou.

Carabou are pretty nice animals. I have never hurt of any other them causing any problems. It's sad they will not be protected.

As humans, we seem to want to destroy what we do not fully understand. There are consequences to letting the caribou go extinct, not just to them but the entire ecosystem that they are a part. We are a bunch of arrogant SOBs aren't we!

Caribou MATTER! All living beings are deserving of protection! May the be save!

How can the agency the reputed mission of which is to protect wildlife even consider depriving a species of its endangered status on the basis of a petition from a couple of ignorant people who are sure to be only pursuing their own interests? "Caribou are not significant and 'therefore' not worthy of protection" -- how arrogant is that!
