"The UN High Commissioner for Refugees said there had been a "staggering escalation of the conflict" in Syria while another official warned that atrocities were becoming "routine".

Oh really? Well just where has this person been hiding the last 15 years? These "atrocities" are being committed daily in virtually every country governed by Sharia law and not even being taken note of. The only difference is in scale. Yes, this should stop. But not just in Syria, in every Sharia governed country, those innocents deserve as much consideration as do the Syrians. Has he never heard of Somalis? Indonesia? Mali? Saudi Arabia? Iran? Afghanistan? Pakistan? Women, children and all people of other faiths are in as much jeopardy in all of those as they are in Syria. Putting out the fire in one place doesn't mean it is actually put out. Speak to all such evil and you've done your job well, speak to just one country and you are ignoring the rest of those suffering as if they didn't count. But they DO. And that too should be acknowledged.

I sent my star to Gene too soon -- You're absolutely right about this Gene! Fundamentalism is so dangerous in all areas of governance - here in the States as well as over in the Middle East --- the most offensive regimes become the most religious - get rid of religion!!! Sorry if that's offensive to you theists out there, but I find most of today's conflicts wrapped in a theological package!

Anyone who doesn't understand that Muslims murder NOT just people of other cultures and faiths.... but also ONE ANOTHER!

Remember the old ''Islam...the religion of PEACE" nonsense? Islam is the religion of permanent offense and murder!

The only thing which stops this violence from happening all over the world is legislation which protect the rest of us from Sharia "law!"

It's frightening and heart rendering at the ferocity of the actions committed by this government towards it's own people and the length of this war on the innocents.

Well said Gene and Lee.

Religion can be the heart of so much conflict, and has been for thousands of years. It predates Christianity and Islam and some of the newer religious movements. But I believe that religion is a tool being used to gather forces around, to subjugate others --- a tool of POWER. Personally, I am a liberal Christian and that works for me. But others have their rights to their belief systems too as long as they don`t try to foist them on others, and that includes atheists and agnostics too. These are very personal. But when such belief systems are imposed on others, that is wrong.

There has been too much suffering in Syria and other locations around the world, all in the name of POWER!
