So strong was the antibusiness sentiment for the first Earth Day in 1970 that organizers took no money from corporations and held teach-ins "to challenge corporate and government leaders."

If you are a teacher, parent, grandparent, find a copy of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. Written in 1966, it was the first book ever written for children about saving the environment.

And, Oh, what a beautiful day it was.

The young take their part:
This afternoon I saw a young girl of about 6 in my back yard (which is mostly a gravel lot outside of my patio)... she had a bag in her hand and was circling the lot picking up any garbage she found. Then she found her way to the front of the building (on the main street) and proceeded to pick up whatever scraps she found there and placed them in her bag. I'm unsure where she started her pickup or where she finished, but this young girl was doing her part today. It touched my heart.

I must say, by the way, that she didn't have much to clean up here..I do a pretty good job of it ;)
