Last year, more than 100 people were killed in sectarian violence in Myanmar's western Rakhine state, bordering Bangladesh. Now the tensions appear to have spread to its heartland and threaten to undermine the country's nascent democratic reforms.

thanks Cal, sadly noted, I'm sorry the Buddhists reacted in such a violent way, it seems antithetical to their teaching.

You can't even make these things up! Their anger, hatred and violence make no sense to most of us, but it's so deeply steeped into their very being that they're willing to kill or die over the slightest perceived offense. They need to work on their theological differences and realize that religion is about "humanity, spirituality and moral values.

Violence, violence, violence! Will it ever end????

Why haven't people learned to live and resolve differences peacefully
and respectfully ????

The words of the song "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" come to mind "When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn?"

Just because people are called buddhist doesn't mean that they practice or honor the precepts in their everyday lives. Much like christianity, the majority of those who say they are followers of Christ can be gun-toting bigots who would sooner take an eye for an eye than turn the other cheek. It's the same for many buddhists - they know more ceremony and tradition than fundamental values.

My friends in Thailand aren't happy about this, either. BURMESE people have caused great trouble in Thailand over the centuries....

Many ancient Thai temples have been desecrated by Burmese raiders who actually set fire to the temples in order to strip them of the gold leaf which once covered them.

Apparently as has been unreported to again defend the peaceful ones ; the flow of muslim illegal invasion from Bangladesh... which kept increasing, plus the use of muslim only trade , buying and selling in specially numbered stores plus your average arrogance toward local ways , plus saudi financing toward muslim venture , plus rapes of buddhist school girls ..these things apparently might have triggered the violence... but then world press seems hell bent on putting its' head up ......violence is not a good thing but if you look at muslim islamic history.. you may understand the resentment and concern of buddhists.. they don't even exhist on the list of who might keep their heads in mahdi time.
