I have no hope for the seal slaughter coming to an end anytime soon. As long as Harper is manning the ship and he's at the helm for yet a few more agonizing's not gonna stop. My faith lies with the next PM whoever that may be...

Noted. Thank Cal for posting.
Canadians on the east coast of Canada, where most of these seal slaughters take place, need to be trained in other jobs - apparently tradesmen are needed.

Please make it so illegal to harm an animal that the hunters fear lengthy jail time, heavy fines, and endless hours of community service working with animals. Ban harm to all animals!

I have signed many petitions about the murder of seal pups. On one, I received an e-mail from Heritage Minister James Moore, who unfortunately is my MP Here is the e-mail. It sounds just like the response from David Walters of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Thank you for writing to me about Canada's commercial seal hunt. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me.

The top priority of our Government remains the economy. Canada’s seal industry remains a vital and important economic activity for many communities in Canada. Now is not the time to debate the future of Canadian sealing; there are no conservation reasons and no commercial reasons to end this hunt.

Our government will continue its excellent record of support for this industry. We will continue to work with Canadian sealers to defend this industry as a healthy, humane and sustainable source of food and clothing. Unfortunately, recent comments by Opposition members who believe the seal hunt is dead only serve the interests of those who oppose this traditional, sustainable and humane hunt, and undermine the livelihoods of thousands of Canadian families. Canadian sealers can rest assured that the Harper Government will continue to defend Canada’s seal industry and promote its products both here at home and abroad.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write to me. Please accept my best wishes.

James Moore, PC MP

Can you say "controlled, very tight response"? That is the mark of the Harper government because Harper is a control freak.

The Canadian government is beginning to sound like the despicable Japanese government in defending the quite unnecessary slaughter of our wildlife. Both governments spend a great deal of time and effort not to mention tax payers money in defending the indefensible. It's a great pity that a beautiful country like Canada continues to keep it's self afloat on the blood of it's wildlife.all the stubborn rhetoric coming from their government is not going to change the Eu's decision and the quicker the better.
