The Boy Scouts of America voted on Thursday to lift a ban on openly gay scouts that had been in place throughout the organization's 103-year history, capping weeks of intense lobbying on both sides, the group said in a statement.

this is not a good idea. a straight boy and a gay boy sharing a tent? they might both come out of that tent gay. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Good for the Boy Scouts! Maybe it was a halfway measure or a compromise, but at least it is a step in the right direction.

I'm not certin in metters that much, since that any sexual conduct, heterosexual or homosexual, is not allowed in any case.

I wanted to join the boy scouts as a kid. But alas I am openly gay and it was quite obvious from an early age.

Now let us hope they go about educating these boys wisely. Greater knowledge promotes greater insight and tolerance.

Oh yay, but as soon as they grow up and want to be leaders they're banned? As if most pedophiles were gay men (not). Stupid. I guess it's a start...

Gay Boys can't make straight boys gay, anymore than straight boys can make gay boys straight, It simply doesn't work that way,

I know many people think this is a victory...or at least a step in the right direction, but as a gay man, I don't feel the victory. All they are doing is saying...OK gay boys, we will let you in, but after you work hard and earn your badges, you have to leave when you become an adult. I think this is a worse message than just telling them to stay out. What kind of message are the scouts trying to send here anyway.
I am actually quite angry about the whole thing. It is even worse than some states saying no you cant be maried, just be happy with the lessor civil union instead..

I am not surprised by either their lifting the Scout Ban or their keeping the Leader and other bans. The single largest sponsor, of any kind, of Boy Scout Troops is the Mormon Church and if you are unaware they are no longer supplying money, boots on the ground or any other support to the Homophobes, NOM, FRC, AFA or any State organizations, they may not exactly LGBT Friendly but they are no longer supporting the enemy. There is still one big ban that personally I do not see anything being done about for a long long time if ever, you can belong to nearly all religions but Agnostics and Atheists are verboten.

It's a start but the battle wages on for full equality for gays in the scouts. Never give up.
