Mora County, a conservative ranching community in New Mexico, is the first U.S. county to ban the practice of fracking, according to reports from the Los Angeles Times. Wells are the only source of water in Mora, which is why last month officials announce

That is good news. Here in Australia, Gina Rinehart put leaflets into people's postboxes during the night to say that their properties are going to be explored for coal seem gas that day. this did not even give them the 24 hour notice required by law. Good to see that people can fight back. there ought to be a concerted effort to see whether there is any way that one can stop fracking legally. it seems absolutely wrong that people can encroach on one's property.

Fracking seems to be pretty provocative, contentious and dangerous, interfering with the earth's crust, without knowing the full consequences...

Noted. Thanks, Cal. Good for Mora County making such a fine statement! I hope with others that many places follow. I just hope I don't read that NM takes away the right of cities and counties to enact these bans.
