It didn't take long after the broke about the Supreme Court's 5-to-4 decision tossing out a key piece of the Voting Rights Act for the fears of voting advocates, or the hopes of VRA critics, to be realized.

Partisan polarization can be overcome with sensible laws and when no one is trying to make the other side look stupid.

Well gee. all Texas wants to do again, is close the polling areas non in white neighborhoods, and end early and Sunday voting. Which is exactly what the Fraud Five intended, let the states sort it out. Certainly,THEY wouldn't have any duplicity in mind.

The lawsuits will be paid for by those who donate to the ACLU.

And....once again.....I'm adding to my annual ACLU contributions! They (and Planned Parenthood) stand up with us to defend civil liberties and reproductive rights.

The "fascinating series of maps" linked from the article is interesting, especially the last map showing the percent of ignorant bigots in states affected by the VRA changes. Apparently, the SCOTUS sequesters themselves too much, or attends too many tea party gatherings, or simply ignores data. For those of us who live in the South, we KNOW what we see every single day. For those who do not live in the South, I fear that in the near future you will witness and know the same sort of bigotry that we do. It's like an endless series of last gasps of the rich, greedy white supremacists in this part of the country.

Between this and Citizen's United and the fact that the constitution does NOT give SCOTUS the right to rule on the constitutionality of anything we have a fantastic argument for the impeachment of at least 4 of the justices.

No Pre-Clearance = No Remedy

Any new law regarding elections must require pre-clearance by the Justice Department!
No remedy is possible after an election. There are no refunds for votes.

SCOTUS needs a good housecleaning!
I'd like to see a move making it mandatory for all of the old farts to be seen and diagnosed by medical professionals, as I'm sure dementia has taken hold in a few of them.

@ Robert L...if we couldn't get rid of Thomas with all the shit he's pulled, I can't see that happening, sorry to say.

Many have been saying the White House is out of reach for the GOP. I have been warning not to be so confident. This ruling just improves the Republican chances. The '14 elections will be crucial to '16 presidential showdown. If the House and Governors numbers remain, as they are now, it will be anyone's guess as to who will win the WH.
