There is a BULLY buried deeply in many men and BULLIES love to pick on the weak when they feel threatened in any way.

Add that to a rapidly growing religion which treats women as ''second class'' anyway and.....

Am I saying that ONLY Muslims oppress women? Of course not! I'm simply saying that they add to the numbers.

What would happen if we gave every woman on the planet her own free supply of MACE?

More than the UN's "resolutions" are necessary to combat this problem.

Nowhere is emotional violence demonstrated more openly than the goals of the Republican Party and the right wing Christian nut cakes.

Pam's got it right. The attitude is systemic worldwide, and definitely needs to be addressed with education, laws and justice. Bullies seem to get away with far too much, and this can be helped with educational programs in our schools at any early age. Much can be done. Women also need to stop allowing this type of behavior, comments, jokes....in social situations, as well as on the job.

when we end violence against women, we will also end war. So strange that men will endevor to break the spirit of the very sex that carries the human species for 9 months. If suddenly all women became barren, would men appreciate us? Would they finally realize that their ability to inseminate is only half of the method to begate male children???
If science were to figure out how to create human life in a petre dish, would women /wombs become extinct? If it were possible to choose one sex or another, how long would it take before people realize that the choice of a male baby over a female may not be preferable in order to perpetuate the species?

Religion aside,we can argue about how that does or does not contribute all day.The fact still remains that almost half of all women globally suffer physical and sexual assalt. There needs to be severe penalties to ALL perpetrators, whether or not the victim presses charges.Being a victim in the past of both,I know the devastating consequences it brings , physically and emotionally.

I hate that so many countries/ religions feel that a man has a "right" to harm his wife/ girlfriend as a means of "discipline." There is no reason that humans can't discuss problems like rational adults- no beating needed!

Very hard to hear but you politician is responsible for all problems...If World Health Organization really want to solve this problem firstly need to concentrate on our EDUCATION system. We need to humanization of Education. Secondly should stop all type of porn-website which is easily available through internet. And this easily available site is disturbing our innocent children who needs good atmosphere to grown up.
Our movie, TV. programs and some internet site decreases our moral value. For safety of our baby/girl/ women need to check our work.
Thanks Cal for sharing and thanks Vivien Green for sharing this news on FB.

I agree with Pam. How do you stop this? Start by valuing women in repressive societies and giving the same rights to women that men have. I hope someday this will happen and we'll look aback on today like it's the dark ages, which it is for some women in some countries.

I know that women are the victims of abuse and violence, but I did not know that it was so high!
When will men come out of the dark ages and realize we are their equals???
