Powerful earthquakes thousands of miles (km) away can trigger swarms of minor quakes near wastewater-injection wells like those used in oil and gas recovery, scientists reported on Thursday, sometimes followed months later by quakes big enough to destroy

Notice the man in the center of the picture? Josh Fox of Gasland I and II. More studies? Anyone see a correlation between all the "studies" and climate change? We already know that toxins are used to FRACK and we know that among these are carcinogens, we also know that these sites leak, cause earthquakes and we have no need for GAS. We don't need more studies we need someone in DC - listening Obama...that will end this.

Do not know why they are still fracking but then most leaders seem to be pig headed where money is being made and would rather bury their heads in the sand to the dangers
they have had earthquakes here in UK from it up north but as far as i know they are now doing it down south
everything is kept quiet so probably no one knows whats going on but sometime there will be more earthquakes
and everyone will cry wolf again Stupid people Hope the ones doing it are in the earthquakes or drink the contaminated water Forget the money and ban fracking

It would serve those who support fracking right to have an earthquake but what about everyone else?

Thanks for good article. Fracking is one of my pet hates, it makes me angry that governments although aware of the dangers to the crust of the earth and the faults, underground water. There is that never ending attitude that it will never happen. Guess what along with global warming it is happening already.

Kit, I agree with your solution, but the culprit of earthquakes near fracking sites is not from the act of drilling and fracturing the shale itself, but rather the disposal wells. Think of it as an Air Hockey board, the well allows slippage but i is not the cause of the slippage (possible just as dangerous, but not the same). It's important because it's difficult to win augments when you have the wrong facts.

I agree John S.

Noted. I have seen many articles over the past several months regarding earthquakes in areas now being fracked where there were no earthquakes previously. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
