A report finds that enforcement of environmental infractions by companies in the Alberta oil sands are 17 times lower than similar infractions reported to the United State's Environmental Protection Agency

Our present government just lets the companies do what they want. They do not listen to anything outside of their agenda and believe environmentalists are terrorists if they disagree with their policies. Hell....they don't even believe we are having global warming.

Noted & posted. Spills and accidents are the norm, not the exception. The AEWS Trans Canada claims alerts it to these "accidents" is lucky if it catches 1% of all spills and accidents. The fines need to be 1000x more than what they are.

Try spilling oil in the street when you change your own oil and find out what you get. It certainly isn't just a slap on the wrist or ignored like these guys get away with.

Very true. Canada does not have "strict environmental standards" at all, as a matter of fact Canada pretty well does not care about the environment. Period.

Am I sounding like a broken record (does anyone remember records)? "People who get punished are actually getting punished for being poor."

All we can do is to continue to sign all of the petitions like I have been and hopefully one of them will kick these idiots in the butt to get into action and protect the environment. Thanks Cal

So much for Canada's ecological conscience. And the US government just loves to buy into these low incidence figures, but knowing full well that they're bought.

Well, as the article stated, this is more evidence against approving the KXL. From all I've been reading the past several weeks (months?), the evidence that has accumulated against KXL is pretty massive. Dirty oil "spills" are everywhere in the U.S. and Canada. I'm sure there's a list somewhere that is quite lengthy...so if Obama approves this pipeline, we certainly need to have a massive protest. The biggest question I have is: Is Obama being informed about all these disasters? Is he in a bubble where all his info comes from those who would hide this from him? When there are protests and arrests, does he know about it?

"...an ally with strict environmental standards." If their standards are so strict why are there so many leaks and spills from the pipelines?? Why arethe fines, if any al all, so low?? Noted with anger. Thank you.
