The new president's "rule of law" campaign apparently doesn't apply to the Communist Party.

Yes, these are the people I would in the world foremost trust in maintaining and protecting my liberty.

Terrible! They shouldn't be arresting anyone, they should listen to them.

In these United States we do the same, but are much more subtle (under the guise of modern evolving intelligence) ... seeking the same results Only the packaging is different, the underbelly not so much.

The whole world is making China stronger and stronger just as was predicted by the Chairman in the little red book. We have to agree he was so far thinking and it is all happening for them economically. What incredible progress but the expense of life is not important to them only progress

The Chinese population has been suppressed for such a long time, and now when they finally want to have some rights and freedom of mind it seems that all the countries on our planet Earth are pretty well heading for the same problems. People all over the world seem to have no rights anymore.
We are just little puppets for the 1% who own the Earth.

America seems to have taken a page, or three, from China's playbook - li8e cheat, arrest, silence...
Noted and thank you.

Noted Thanks Cal. Democracy is something that is like trying to catch the end of the rainbow in ever country. It is always there in front of you, but the reality is that you can never quite catch it. People in China have an even harder time trying to get their voice heard, which is not surprising as even in countries ilke here, in Australia, where we have relatively free speech, governments don't take any notice of what we say even 'though we are not in fear of being jailed for saying it!

They should be more practive in figuring out what the people want like the US, just wiretap everyone, it's easy.

One day China will be as much of a democracy as any other country. It just takes much time and the question is whether it truly is progress for its citizens.

If Xi made the party accountable to the people he and his government might just find themselves publicly humiliated ; sent to a re-education camp or shot. The communist party would soon be overthrown. Of course human nature being what it is would soon find another political bunch of rascals to take their place. Corruption never sleeps when there is money and material wealth and power to be gotten.
