Loss of forest, woodland, and savanna increased sharply in Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Bolivia during the second quarter of 2013, reports a new assessment by NASA scientists.

Unfortunately, this is NOT news re: Madagascar. People have cut down so much forest (to make charcoal for cooking) that millions of animals who lived there have died. It's an environmental disaster---only country I've ever visited which made me wish I hadn't gone there.

That's a shame Pam, tourism is what Madagascar needs to stop the deforestation. Oil in the Congo will make that hard to stop,

Halt deforestation by educating them and giving them an alternative. What are they going to do once the trees are all gone, die if they can't live??? Stop raping the earth
