Turkey is becoming more of a key player in the region than ever.

I'm sure the Kurds would love this idea - an independent state?

Sorry to say I haven't been keeping up with the Syria-Kurd-Turkey relationships and any changes. The Syrian troop withdrawal would be good news to the Kurds, but doubtful they could withstand anything Turkey decided to throw at them. Noted and thank you.

The Turks have an appalling record with their treatment of ethnic minorities. I'm not holding my breath.

So the Kurds are the next group to be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
This whole region is full of tribes warring with each other since the beginning of time. With a lot of dictatorships terminated, enabling religious differences to come to the surface again, with the old tribal wars flaring up and with young people in the region getting a taste for modernity and their own form of democracy, the situation becomes more complex by the day and probably will go from bad to worse for a while.

I do think the Kurds need a region they can call their own, by creating a country like Kurdistan could be a benefit for all.. Turkey, Syria, Iraq and other surrounding countries should promote this for the peace in the region.
For whatever reason the British and the French after WW1 and the fall of the Ottoman empire totally screwed the Kurds to this day, they are homeless and without a country of their own. I guess the British claim 'Rule by division'. This is why the Kurds are in this position.
