If you want to be an effective president you need to carve out the center with a coalition of democrats and republics, just let the fringes flap.

The GOP's tea party ran its campaign on shutting down the government - this has nothing whatsoever to do with the Dems - these are traitors who are willing to throw the country out with the bath water - which in all likelihood is what will happen come Oct.17th !

Time is on the President's side because the closer the nation gets to debt default, then the more people are going to scream and scream at the Republigoons to get over their hysteria, accept Obamacare, and pass a budget that makes real sense to real people and not just their collective of cronies.

John S. I agree with your above statement. The hard sides need to be pushed back a bit and reasonable, fair minded people need to talk.

Someone needs to pull a coalition together. Who is the leader of the United States of America? Our President. He needs to lead all of us.

No matter what anyone may think, President Obama is my president and I expect for him to represent me as well each and every one of us regardless of differences. I expect him to reign in the children when these differences occur and work it out for all of our sakes.

I find the whole thing humiliating and childish from all of them. The name-calling, absolutely beneath their office. Just a truly sad statement of where we all are.

I am not so sure how it will all play out. Who gets most or all the blame? Personally, I am not into the blame game. I prefer solutions and find blame just covers for failure.

Just me...

In a purely partisan political move, the Republican Party in Congress shut down the federal government. As a result, veterans are being turned away from monuments made in their honor, small businesses are being hurt, thousands of federal workers are out of work right here in Pinellas County and the national economy is taking a billion dollar hit that we all will feel. ALL BECAUSE PRESIDENT OBAMA SUPPORTED THE ACA AND THEY ARE SO JEALOUS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WILL GET CREDIT FOR IT CAUSE IT'S ALREADY SHOWING SUCCESS....THE GOP WILL CHOSE THE HURT THE COUNTRY BEFORE THEY GIVE INTO WHAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

Brian ....I agree 100% with your comments.

while it might be with the people, I think Mr. Obama is too nice, too willing to eventually compromise and unless there is true public outrage at the Greedy Obstructing Poisoners he will eventually be willing to negotiate and unfortunately maybe even compromise on the ACA...

Boehner caters to the Dirty Thirty who all signed a pledge months ago to shut down the government, when all he has to do is allow the floor to open for a vote NOW. These Pettea Party baggers are basically white bible belt southerners, who seem to be envious of Obama's superior intelligence, sense of fairness, level of enlightenment and caring. Obama wishes for all of us to have equal access to care. What do these ignorant Pettea Party members want? To me it appears that they have an overwhelming impulse to show an "uppity" president that their light skin color and stupid ideology has gotten them far on these lands in the past (my ancestors had to watch their tribal people and neighbors being burned alive by the invaders) and they can't imagine that such ignorant arrogance may be on the way out!

William, I hope you're right, but the Gerrymandering is so intense that in 2012 the Democrats got 1.4 million more votes, but got beaten 234-201 in the House.

The question is - Will Obama stand tough as it gets closer to the default date, or will he cave??

I don't think the President will cave on this. The American people have been hurt by this shutdown and to say the least this could be the last straw. I have been told that people will forget all about this by the elections of 2014. No, they won't because there are hundred thousands of people just like me that will constantly remind them. The GOP by pandering to the Tea Party have left themselves open to fail. The election of 2014 should finish off the Tea Party. As I have stated before, do your homework. Research the way your congressperson and Senators vote on issues that effect the average American, Then unless you are in the 2% which is all the GOP care about, cast your vote to get rid of the Obstructionists. That is the only way to set thing on the right course for all Americans. Holding the Government hostage to pass their agenda is lunacy. Remember an informed voter will cast an a vote for all Americans.

All of these guys are so rich, narcissistic and sociopathic, all they have to do is hop on their jets and watch the place burn as they go. With big grins on their faces as they pour the champagne.

They DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH THEY HURT THE COUNTRY. They must be removed from their positions.

I am hoping Obama will surprise us and that he isn't just trying to be "too ethical" as some are saying. I am hoping he has plans, quiet plans he is formulating now. I hope that he will use the means and connections he has at his disposal to take care of this insanity before more people get hurt.

I believe in honor, ethics, I don't usually approve of being "sneaky" when it comes to tactics. I prefer everything to be out in the open. But sometimes? When it gets so bad that it becomes crazy? Sometimes that's the only option.
