l. The ban was passed because there was concern that fracking for shale gas could lead to a leak of methane gas, which is a more potent green house than carbon. fracking could also lead to the pollution of fresh water supplies and mini earthquakes

Mind you: the ban concerns only hydrolic fracturing.

IF some whizkid invents another method of fracking, the ban won't prevent the usage of this non-hydrolic fracking.

Second point: the ban (that is: the law that bans) includes the installation of a committee of experts who's task it will be to study other possibilities of extracting the shale-gas.

It's not as easy and final as it might seem.

Thanks Cal!

And no matter how: fracking has to stop, before fracking stops us.

No fracking, not here, not anywhere else!

So, of the three countries listed in causes as being angry with us (to put it mildly) about NSA spying, two have now accomplished something we would do well to emulate.

France has outlawed hydraulic fracking.

Mexico has outlawed GMO corn.

Did the NSA tell the administration about any of this, so we might be able to actually benefit from what they learned? I'll bet not.

Anybody have any news from Brazil?

Good for France. If only we could do the same in the U.S. including California where the governor just approved the go ahead in an earthquake region.

There need to be more petitions like this, along with the petitions which make requests for change. It's always good to recognise a positive response.
