One of Bill de Blasio's most prominent backers today equated the Koch brothers with the Ku Klux Klan while introducing the mayoral front-runner at a church in Harlem.

Well, I agree with Harry - so the Kochs don't wear sheets over their heads - about the only difference in my book.

the truth is even worse the Koch family is intimately entwined with Nazi Germany during world war 2 the truth is these two pieces of scum belong in jail along with most of their family's and supports for undermining America

Fair comparison, the main difference is he Kochs hate whites too. They hate everybody. They are equal opportunity killers. And what Gary said.

Noted. Thanks, Cal.
I agree the comparison is fair, and appreciate Belafonte saying what he did. I also agree with Gary's comment. The Kochs are toxic to America.

I really do like Harry Belafonte very much indeed!

Mr. Belafonte, still combative at age 86, "referred to the Koch brothers, Charles & David -the wealthy industrialists who have generously supported conservative causes (according to the NYTmes) & backers of de Blasio's GOP rival- as “white supremacists,” adding: “They make up the heart and the thinking in the minds of those who would belong to the Ku Klux Klan.”

But his remarks are causing confusion & embarrassment in the de Blasio campaign team, because it isn't politically correct to make controversial remarks, particularly during a election campaign, even if they do tell the truth, when that truth is crude & ugly ! "Mr. de Blasio said later he disagreed with Mr. Belafonte’s characterization..." (NYTimes, Nov 4th - "Supporter’s Caustic Remark Spices Up Mayoral Campaign’s Final Days")

Well said Harry and about time. Of course, the Koch Bros will deny being racist in the same vain as the KKK, it's just they hate what little tax money they do pay going to help all those below and near the poverty line. After all they worked hard and spent hard earned money to buy whatever tax loop hole they could from the Congress to minimize their tax burden and increase their profits.

I was there. Mr. Belafonte looked great for his age. Heck he looked good for someone twenty years younger than his years. I think he's 89.
Some of my Favorite pols were there of course and Belafonte was very pleased that we may and probably will have a new progressive mayor for the first time in a long time. He spoke from the heart. It was a good rally and I shook the hand of our Mayor to be. Didn't want to bother Harry. May have also gotten a new connection to do Campaign work in the future. I have video and will post it and others @ I'm MrUberviewer Just thought to upload them now.... so check back later for more, if you are interested in seeing them.

Ok. Harry is 87. Deblasio mentioned it. Uploading the long one now. Its a smidge over 15 minutes long, Hope YouTube accepts it. It covers most of what Harry and Bill said. I hung in there...right arm up...left arm up...repeat. uhhh 20 percent so far...

The Kochs have already proven their racist beliefs, or at the very least, their proclivity for using the racist beliefs of others to accomplish their goals --- think Wake Island, NC where the Kochs promoted segregation in the schools.

Well said Mr Belafonte. Thank you for your service.

Thanks, TCat, for postng. Mucho thanks, Robert S, for your eye-witness account & YouTube upload that I will happily check out! I'm very excited about Bill de Blasio running for mayor & leading in the polls. Saw a great mini-report on him on the French TV evening news two days ago - they even showed an old pic of a very young Bill, bearded, when he supported the Nicaraguan Sandinists, in the early days of their struggle! A real former radical, aware of US imperialism in Latin America - WOW! What a change! A good guy finally on the point of winning an election.

With de Blasio, it will be the end of the NYPD racial profiling & violence against visible minorities via their unconstitutional 'stop & frisk' program & tactics!

I think Lynn is 100% correct when she alludes to the Kochs' exploiting the racism of bigoted Americans to accomplish their goals. It matters less what they actually believe than the shameful use they put others' racist beliefs to, sabotaging our democracy & undermining the justice all citizens should all be entitled to benefit from, in dealing with the police & the courts!

Please accept my apologies, Cal! I noted your post here & another posted by TomCat within seconds & I got confused about who posted what!
It's you, CAL, that I mean to thank for posting this.

And speaking of denying credit to those who deserve it, I didn't mention Phil P whose comment is spot on:
The Kich bros aren't racist, they "just hate what little tax money they do pay going to help all those below and near the poverty line. After all they worked hard and spent hard earned money to buy whatever tax loop hole they could from the Congress to minimize their tax burden and increase their profits."

The Koch roaches are the Koo Koo Klan with money.

Tuesday November 5, 2013, 7:14 am seems Mr.B has been introducing our next Mayor all around town. Silly of me to think the event I attended was "the" event. I must seems Mr.B likes to say something a bit controversial at each event. At the one I attended, rather than refer to the crowd as Liberals, he said he preferred to call us "radicals". I winced a bit, and thought THAT would make headlines, but no... I think people realize Mr.B, likes to have some fun, isn't a politician and hell...this step to the left will be a small r radical departure from what we have come to expect here...and I like it...ALLOT. Here is the FINALLY uploaded 15 minutes of the rally I attended. and if taxing Wall Street to feed and educate children is radical, I'm all in. As for the Brothers Koch. Its hard to think of something bad enough to describe I guess Harry did the best he could.

The fact remains the Kochs are not run of the mill Americans - they are bigots who don't give a damn about the middle class and poor and will use us to perpetuate their $$$$$ agenda. They give us reasons to hate greed and bigotry. How boring it must be to wake up every morning to hear how much they are distrusted. We must be vigilant and not fall for their lies or it will be our fault. Too many Americans vote against their best interests in elections and I just don't understand this.
