Pirates off the Horn of Africa hauled in hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years -- and funneled those funds into drugs, prostitution, real estate and other ventures.

It seems piracy is big business nowadays. While it might be tempting or even satisfying to make war on the "foot-soldiers" of the piracy world, it would be better to pursue the financial kingpins. You need money to wage war, cut of the money supply and hopefully you reduce an opponent's ability to make war. Follow the money, freeze accounts, seize funds, render the linchpins to the Hague for prosecution. Protect international shipping. Piracy should not be tolerated.

Another example of the idea that money corrupts. Thanks for sharing the article.

And what did you expect pirates to use ransom for? Homes for the poor and hospitals for the sick? They are pirates!

Not surprising. They'll do anything to continue their vile activities. Thanks for sharing, Cal.

They are not doing anything wrong, because they are robbing and pirating against non-Muslims. Therefore they are righteous.

First strike is always the hardest and tkaes the most guts. Depending on how it's handled, more will follow (and has). Why are you surprised when counterbalance measures weren't addressed in the beginning? Too late to the dance.
