Watch the World's Forests Disappear on Google Earth

Deforestation is a tricky problem to nail down. We know forests are shrinking, but knowing exactly where and by how much often means compiling locally reported data that can be shoddy, incomplete, or outdated

This is absolutely astonishing. Fantastic that Hansen, in partnership with NASA and Google Earth, was able to compile the video of satellite imagery, to graphically demonstrate the rate of deforestation world-wide. 888,000 square miles for the twelve years 2000-2012, is deeply depressing. However it is better to know and have accurate figures to work with than not. Now we know the extent of the problem, we have to work that much harder to turn this trend around...., o.k. I know I sound incredibly na´ve and idealistic, but we have to try, actually better still, we must do this. The Earth and we all depend on the outcome.

This is terrible!

Everyone, please visit the rainforest site at Greatergood every day,
Landcareniagara, and
Care2 (obviously!

Also, if you drink Yorkshire Tea, or Taylors of Harrogate coffee, or know someone who does, save the tokens and send them off - just 4 tokens will save a tree in one of their rainforest projects!

Sad indeed!!
This short clip should be run as a television advertisement/commercial - it'll fit nicely into allotted time slots - in order to share the devastation done primarily by mankind. Maybe then big governments will quit denying their involvement and take witness to one of the results of mass deforestation - climate change.

Lol Cal. Carol D is noting your stories so care2 will let her stay and pump out her anti liberal hate. It's ironic that her people are the cause of much of the destruction to the world..

Please note and share
