These owls are in the wrong place for sure but there must be a better way of clearing them away. How do other airports do it?

Noted and signed - sickening to say the least - they are amazingly beautiful birds - they need to find a more humane way of dealing with this issue, killing them is definitely not the answer.

this is sad, the other side,is that a single bird can down a huge jet
so there's that
that being said,I wish there was a way to relocate them
most rural and some city aitports are next to bird sanctuaries,I never understood that since birds are a huge
hazard to aviation safety!

Thank you Cal and Cher. I came to this late, and am glad for the halt to the killing.
Tasunka, I'm going to guess that since many airports are built on the outskirts of cities,, that at the time of buliding the sites were chosen for the perceived uselessness of the land.
One of the first, if not THE first environmental battles in the U.S. was the one that kept the Port Authority from putting a "Jetport" in The Great Swamp of New Jersey. It was seen as useless swamp wetlands, at the time.
Subsequent to that victory the Feds eventually created a wonderful sanctuary and National Park there. It is a great place for birding. This swamp is the remains of a once HUGE inland lake going back to the end of thelast glaciation.
Having heard of this latest "irruption," I was planning a trip to another National Park, this weekend, Sandy Hook, New Jersey, at the Gateway N.P., where a number of Snowies have been reported.
