I do sympathize with the Lakota..HOWEVER, when i sent boxes of clothing donations which i bought from local thrift shops, i received a nasty response from one of their revered medicine men. The same clothes i wear i bought for them and received extreme ungratitude, even hostility. The same medicine man wanted me to send cash to a local Walmart directly to him even though i had a company matching gift program to a an offical registered charity. The same medicine man also wanted hundreds of dollars to say prayers for a friend of his who was dying when he was notified.

It is time to do the right thing America
Angelus I would contact someone else this person sounds very shady and there is always a bad apple in place to taint any program, especially when one asks for money

None of the First People's tribes have, so far, been truly compensated for all of the stealing and decimation of peoples and cultures that they have endured. Some of the saddest living arrangements I ever saw was when I took my daughter through the Reservations of the Apache & Navajo while traveling near the Grand Canyon. We shouldn't encourage or enable alcoholism or conning, but we absolutely need to do SOMETHING to restore what was taken!

Angelus Silesius: Please understand that even within the native people's there are those who Walk in a good way and those who do not. The native people themselves will be the first to say this as they are taken in by their own and robbed. They have learned too well what the Dominant Culture also knows, that there are kind and generous people and their are some ready to scam and take you for everything you have.

There are Ministers, Preachers, and Teachers in the Dominant Society that are found out to be less than and have been sent to jail for crimes. There are too many people running around claiming they are Medicine Men or Pipe Carriers that are not, and they might not even be Native American either. So with anything, please be very careful who you are dealing with. There are many legitimate organizations that accept help from the public and are most grateful. Please contact me and I will give you some legitimate places to work with and I assure you if you do your donation will be received with much gratitude.

Now I know you've been burned, and I've seen you leave this comment before, but please do not allow this bad experience take away from the true need of many who suffer. Just because one black person treated you poorly would you equate that as all black people are rude and disrespectful or say a white person had scammed you, no you say, don't deal with that particular Organization, no say I tried to help a white person once, or a caucasian once, or an Irishman or French woman once and I was robbed and disrespected.

Thanks Cal and bless your heart I most certainly signed.

It is distressing that our fellow human beings live in such appalling conditions. It is disgraceful that First Nations peoples should continue to suffer. Well resourced, bilaterally negotiated, accepted and implemented intervention plans may assist in remedying the surface indicators of distress, but much deeper work is probably needed to restore personal and communal self-esteem..., it is a long road, but every journey begins with the first step.

Having personally made contact with Dennis [ the menace] Daugaards office in South Dakota to ask for his input in regard to the neglect & abuse of the First Nation he must be walking with the response as there is no sign of it as of yet, perhaps he feels its none of my business as Im from outside the Dakota voting area. Human Rights has no boundary or timeline and we will not be silenced or ignored. Dennis choses to ignore the meaning of his own surname which comes from DIEU TE GARDE which is God protect you, pity his heart & his mind are so closed to embrace the fullness of this.

We are only as strong as our weakest link and shame on us that we have not atoned for creating weaknesses. There is so much to learn and nurture in the arenas that our country (and many others) have neglected, ignored, shunned and even abused. Shame on us. I know we little folks do what we can. Gotta get the big guns to put down their guns and pick up and distribute their greedy loot. Thanx Cal
