We are still losing forests and trees much faster than they can regrow. In fact, we are losing 50 soccer fields worth of trees every minute!

STOP DESTROYING THE TREES. THEY ARE VITAL FOR OUR LIVES IN ORDER FOR US TO BREATH, BUT ALSO SO THAT WE CAN HAVE FOOD.
IF THE HUMANS WANT TO LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE NO TREES ARE THAN BE MY GUEST GO FIND A DESERT AND LIVE THEIR AND NEVER COME BACK TO CIVILIZATION. ANOTHER WAY IS TO FIND A PLACE WHERE THERE IS ONLY CONCRETE AND PAVEMENT ON THE HOTTEST DAYS OF THE YEAR AND TRY TO FIND COVER FROM THE HEAT. GOOD LUCK

Ecology and the Human Heart

According to Buddhist teaching, there is a very close interdependence between the natural environment and the sentient beings living in it. Some of my friends have told me that basic human nature is somewhat violent, but I told them I disagree. If we examine different animals, for examples, those whose very survival depends on taking others lives, such as tigers or lions, we learnt that their basic nature provides them with sharp fangs and claws. Peaceful animals, such as deer, which are completely vegetarian, are gentler and have smaller teeth and no claws. From that viewpoint we human beings have a non-violent nature. As to the question of human survival, human beings are social animals. In order to survive we need companions. Without other human beings there is simply no possibility of surviving; that is a law of nature.

Since I deeply believe that human beings are basically gentle by nature, I feel that we should not only maintain gentle, peaceful relations with our fellow human beings bur also that is very important to extend the same kind of attitude toward the natural environment. Morally speaking, we should be concerned for our whole environment.

Despite the international dialogue about these forests we don't seem to be putting a half to this process despite being fully aware of the consequences. It would seem that issuing threats & ultimatums are going to be our only chance of saving this planet.

Noted & posted. I knew about the Tar Sands. Those costly ads Trans Canada ran didn't fool anyone who knew to begin with. It reminds me of Harper every time he arises in the commons and extols how the Neo Cons have dealt another economic boon for Canada. Sorry pal but I didn't drink the Koolaid or ingest the rat poison you tried to feed us. Your policies are slowly killing us all.
I didn't know about Paraguay or Cote D'Ivoire.

Deforestation driven by human expansion - this is an area to campaign against. not sure who is overlooking this: boreal forest campaign and tell Kellogg's to stop using palm oil and the need to maintain urban growth boundaries to stop sprawl have been going on.

....I am guessing the GOP will deny this since satellite pictures, based on the science of photography and physics, were involved..........pardon me, just read Kit's post about Wyoming banning climate change science in the classroom.........

we humans sure have a hard time looking past present times and our own desires, don't we....

Never under estimate the stupidity and the depths of ignorance that humans can sink into. The forests and the oceanic phytoplankton are the two lungs of the earth. We are destroying them both at an ever increasing rate. Without them the carbon level in the atmosphere will not be reduced. Global warming will continue to accelerate. I think we have already pasted the point of no return. Stop having children. Reducing the number of humans is the only answer. With few humans, Mother will have a chance to recover from our greed and stupidity.

Thanks for sharing.... So sad and frustrating! Educate people and girls to educate the human overpopulation and we need to use our resources in a much more sustainable way... Sharing.
