"Not until the late '70s did Joel become a bona fide superstar, at which point piano men everywhere who wanted to earn their tips were forced to play "Just the Way You Are" as well as, of course, "Piano Man."

Well, I'm turning 65 later this year too. And for my money, Billy Joel is one of the, if not, THE greatest singer-songwriters I've ever heard in my life. Yes, I have a lot of his music, much of it still on vinyl. But the man could write like no one else and composing the music, well, who is better? I've loved this song since I first heard it and it is one of those that can easily get stuck in your head, but then, so are most of his songs. He's been one of the great joys of my life, his music, may it, and he, go on for many, many years to come. :^)

Not to take away from this great article, I coud not help listening to Joel turning 65, as Cher is back on tour at 67. Elton is in his 60's, and Bette Midler is 68, Jagger is also up there. Where did the time go?

I enjoy Billy Joel. I also enjoyed his videos when he was making them. I have a few cds and listen periodically when I want to hear music that is music, not the junk from today. Hope he keeps up his music for years to come.

Wow, the head of hair on him with the first photo that popped up. Yes, Allan, time flies. We think we have forever when we are young. Mick Jagger will be 71 this July. I can always remember as he is 10 years older than me.

The greatest singer-song-writers include Billy Joel, Paul Simon, John Mellencamp, and Lennon & McCartney! I've bought & re-bought all their stuff, mainly because tapes & CDs go bad.. :) Happy Birthday Billy!
I heard Garth Brooks sing "The Piano Man" on a special, & I would've sued if'n I was Billy! Garth just Did NOT do it justice!

Had never heard about the origins of "The Piano Man". So interesting to read about the characters! Billy Joel and I share a birthday. He's 6 years older than I am!!! I'm right behind ya Billy! I enjoyed "Movin Out" on Broadway as a guest with my Tony voter friend!
