The congressional bill authorizing the buyback means that tribal members and non-tribal members will be robbed of their deeded land at whatever price the government thinks it's worth. If owners refuse, the government will merely take it at no cost as th

Considering how hard many of us are fighting to keep oil drilling and fracking out of the national parks in America, you can bet your ass that this has nothing to do with wanting to return the land to its "pristine" condition, but rather a desire to get around being stopped by indigenous peoples in the area who will not allow destruction of the land.

I haven't yet looked into who is actually supporting this bill, but if republicans are supporting it, you know it's being done at the behest of their corporate masters and for nefarious reasons.

You signed United States Senate: We are asking you to not pass this bill that will strip tribal members and non tribal members of their deeded land.

You have nailed it Susan Allen, I haven't yet looked further into it but that is the first thing that came to my mind. Is what they did to the Navajo, took their lands that they lived on and grazed their sheep on so they could get at the coal and uranium. They were suppose to be paid for the uranium from the WWII which hasn't happened and all they got in return was the left overs that blow in the winds causing the Indian people to get cancer.

And as for the Indians believing what is being told to them they are either buying into the lies in hopes for the best or they are fools. Nothing that has EVER been promised to them has ever been kept and most of them know it.

But just like others in Dominant Culture, some of them see $ and go for it despite what is being lost to them overall. The cultural destruction has destroyed many of them and their traditions of honoring what should not be sold. This whole divide and conquer has also worked well against the Indians. And then finally, what was done in the past is just being played out again, they are given little option or choice, sell or we take it anyway.

The land theft isn't over, never has been.

We have done enough raping of the Native Americans. We have taken their lands and made promises which we had no intention of keeping, laws or not. Leave them alone for a change and go after the McMansions and their owners and the like for a change.

The world as it is is selling or trading aliveness for survival. Virtually every existing institution is like this.
Government and education, for instance, fail to do their jobs; but they are very good at justifying and perpetuating themselves, and dominating others. Like the individuals who created and who sustain them. No longer are those simply out for personal power and wealth able to fool people so easily.........

NO ONE has the right to further take anything away from our most original Americans.
This is not about being nice.
This is about MORALS and morals are about, knowing the difference between _right and wrong_. If you haven't learned that yet, is there any hope?
For those who believe in god, I'd be terribly fearful of my immediate direction upon death.
