Noted and signed and shared Haven't any of these government officials learnt anything yet ie the Gulf of Mexico. We are talking the great lakes here, if there is a spill the water will be contaminated quickly as the St. Lawrence runs right down to Lake Ontario, Lake Superior, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron. Not to mention that it is very close to a fault line.

I wish there was an alternative to oil but I suspect that if one were to be come available the big oil companies would buy it all up then close it down in order to save their profits. These companies seem to be a law unto themselves they are an outrageous menace.

Last year, a US chartered company, Lone Pine, began proceedings to sue the Québec government and the Canadian government "...alleging that Quebec’s June 2011 ban on fracking in the bed of the St. Lawrence River—which prohibits all “oil and gas activities” in the river—amounts to an “arbitrary, capricious and illegal revocation of the [company’s] valuable right to mine for oil and gas.” Mining Company Sues Canada Over Fracking Ban in Quebec As noted in the article, the oil below the St Lawrence River is part of the natural gas rich Utica shale and may hold as much as 3.3 billion cubic feet of undiscovered shale.

So what does drilling in Anticosti have to do with Lone Pine? If the Québec government allows Anticosti, I think they will be forced to accommodate Lone Pine and others. That would be a disaster. The Lone Pine suit will be or was held in a special tribunal that is not open to public scrutiny so I have no idea where it is at right now. I do not recall hearing anything about Lone Pine being successful. I did read thatLone Pine was in financial difficulty back in 2012-13.
