perhaps nowhere are the deeds of protesters sparking more discomfort than here in Germany, where the most radical protest chants are rattling through the streets of Berlin like disturbing ghosts of the past.

Germany of all places needs to set an example to all of Europe to clamp down on anti-Semitism without delay.

Frankly I don't see much difference between what the Nazis did to the Jews during WW2 and what Israel is doing to the Palestinians today.Free Gaza - Free Palestine!!!.

Same here Arild.......and the way Israel is trying to sell it..puts even more people off. They are managing to do a great disservice to themselves........opening old wounds that had closed....and introducing it to more people who were unaware of what happened during WW11...they can't see the difference either.....too much propaganda.....

Sorry Arild forgot to mention heard on SBS World News Australia tonight......that America has agreed to "Restock Israel's ammunition" so I'm sure they will have these protesters covered as well....

Hey, there is no excuse for anti-semitism or other discrimination against ANY GROUP no matter where world events are. That IS what the article is talking bout people.

If you are only for human rights for some people, you are missing the boat here.

Anti Jewish rhetoric is antisemitic ~ anti killing rhetoric directed at Israel's behavior in Gaza is not. No matter who is doing the killing in any region ~ they are wrong. It's simple moral ethics.

killing is always wrong, but if we always spew hate & demand revenge there is no chance for peace......at sometime someone has to say stop & lets talk and work things out.....

Cal,I'm not anti-semitic - I'm against what the IDF is doing to defenseless people in Gaza.Israeel have had plenty of opportunities to live in peace with the Palestinians in a two state solution.Building a Wall around Gaza and cutting off any way for the Palestinians to leave and come as they want to their own Country will definitly lead to more protests from Europe and the rest of the world.Take a good look at this landgrabbing procces from 1947 to the presente day:

http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/mapstellstory.html

The biggest mistake with the Oslo-agrement was that it left out the Israeli settlement policy but it was probaly dead in the water before the ink dried on the document.

If you post a story like this you have to tolerate that C2 members wants to vent their reactions to what is happening or should we just wait for the next newsreport of how many Palestinians were killed today and how many schools were bombed???

Cal..I am against the pushers of all this anti crap....and their vested interests, when they feel they have a need to "Get Their Message" across.....they are the ones that need to be stopped along with their mindless supporters.....stop peddling junk and propaganda......think you are missing the boat here.....a whole new generation is being stirred up including my own (again).......by the ramblings of this "Old Guard"

Arild, not questioning your ethics, but this more of a question of dealing with the matter covered by this article. I have visited other articles on Care2 where your comments are more pertinent. I am good with hearing all opinions but I think world events should never be an excuse for hatred even if they are as negative as the ones in GAza. Anti-semitism thrives on ths sort of connection, but I don't think you are anti-semitic, Arild.

Cal,this is from the article you posted:

"The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is echoing on the streets of Europe, sparking a rash of protests — both peaceful and violent — and ratcheting up tensions across the continent. Saturday in London, 45,000 protesters gathered outside Israel’s embassy, chanting “Free Palestine.” In France, a nation already facing an uptick in anti-Semitic violence before the Israeli strikes on Gaza, pro-Palestinian youths last week looted and set fire to Jewish businesses in a suburb of Paris. French authorities have banned anti-Israel protests, but thousands of young demonstrators have defied the edict, engaging police with rocks and bottles."

This will certainly increase untill a final peaceful solution between Israel and Palestine is reached, fair and controlled by both sides and the UN.Yes I do take the side of Palestine and I make no boné about it but my main moral compass is "Live and let live",if you mix religion into it plz leave me out.

Please stop this conflict before anymore innocent lives are lost on both sides.

Arild my friend, though you quote accurately, the question before us is when peaceful protests and the right to protest in any form becomes an excuse for discrimination.

I am not questioning dissent and the right to dissent but rather the right to discriminate against a group based on events outside of their control because of who they are and NOT because of what they did. You are not drawing this distinction, but I think it is vital one. Burning businesses in Europe just because a Jew or Jews own them is NOT a legitimate form of dissent and is anti-semitic in nature without question.

Ros and Arild, nothing you say surprises me anymore. Because there's a conflict in the Middle East, it becomes perfectly legitimate to burn down businesses or desecrate synagogues in Pooterville, Illinois because they belong to Jew scumpigs and in the next breath call us Nazi Jews.
And if someone in Steyr, Austria burned down a Palestinian business.....

My friend Cal,I don't condone any form of violent demonstrations against Israel and I have never supported Hamas as per date.Fatah was also seen as as a terrorist-organisation once upon a time but now they are recognised by Israel and the rest of the world as a partner for "peace".The biggest problem for Israel and USA is that Fatha and Hamas has formed a coalition and as we all know is that Israel and USA never negosiate with any terrorist-organisation,what goes on behind the scenes is quite another thing.
Answering to your second part I believe I already did,who is discrimitating against whom is not the point here.
The Jews had to live trough their "Crystalnight" in the 1930ies,how long do the Palestinians have to live trough theirs?

As you well know from my comments during previous conflicts in the region Cal I feel there is undeniable guilt on both sides of the warring factions! & I have friends on both sides of this conflict!... peace loving citizens who would be happy to live in neighboring states!...But the ruling factions in Israel have to me...always seemed hell bent on extending their borders whatever the cost to ordinary citizens on both sides!...& in spite of the fact that ordinary people in Palestine recently denounced the actions of Hamas (largely ignored by the media of the world) ...in the hope that this would somehow help to bring about talks & avoid the further slaughter of innocent victims! their efforts seem to have been to no avail!...As in previous conflicts Israeli leaders persist in "Using a sledgehammer to crack a nut" as opposed to appealing to world leaders to denounce Hamas & genuinely attempt to bring about a lawful & peaceful settlement for all concerned!...Surely NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND can condone what has been inflicted on the citizens of Gaza in recent days or in fact in previous conflicts!

What has the world ever done about militant extremism? While we discuss one thing, ISIS is attacking Iran, Iraq,
and Syria. Just kids having fun. Through all the hijackings, suicide bombs, car bombs, massacres, skyjackings, hostage situations, where has the world been? The Arab world has repeatedly refused to attend any negotiations, consider any amicable agreement regarding Israel/Palestine. Hamas has violated and refused ceasefires repeatedly.
Israel has agreed to ceasefires and offered unilateral ceasefires for humanitarian purposes. Israel has attended peace talks and attempted to negotiate.
The extremists will not and cannot negotiate because that is tantamount to accepting Israel as a viable, independent entity in the Middle East. The Palestinian people are being trampled under the extremist's self-proclaimed goal of annihilating Israel.

How many concessions did Israel make at the 2000 Camp David talks before Arafat walked out? And in 2006-2008, the direct talks in 2010?
Israel's demand is recognition as a Jewish state, The Arabs want the annihilation of Israel.
And it's inconceivable to you that this has all been carefully orchestrated using the Palestinians as pawns.

To answer Barbara's question ~ Hamas has not committed the atrocities in Israel that the Israeli military has committed in Gaza. That should be apparent for all to see. Is Hamas morally accountable for the three civilian deaths in Israel? From what I understand ~ yes they are directly responsible for two of them. Now tell me how two civilian deaths by Hamas compares to 1300 civilian deaths in Gaza committed by Israel? There is not comparison. Israel is morally and ethically wrong and guilty of war crimes in the eyes of the world. If saying that makes me ani Semitic ~ your denial of the obvious makes you what?

How difficult it is to see the world making their decisions based upon what they see on TV and on the comparison of casualties.

Nobody takes into consideration the psychological damage on the Israeli public especially on the children. The Israelis incorporate ways to protect their population from physical damage – psychological damage is invisible to the TV cameras so it is of no interest. Nobody is there to record a child who hears a siren of an ambulance and thinks a rocket is being fired at him.

For what does the Hamas need rockets and terror tunnels?

If the monies received from the West would be put into civilian projects and they would stop teaching hate and worshiping death, there would be no blockade and Gaza would flourish.

The West should tell Hamas that they brought this tragedy upon themselves and that they should stop firing into Israel, and disarm. Instead they demand that Israel cease fire immediately.

The world turned upside down.

“We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.” Golda Meir
