The World Bank's plan would relax the conditions on which it will lend billions of dollars a year to developing countries, allowing countries to simply opt out of policies to protect the environment or ensure the human rights of indigenous people.

Noted, signed & shared.(FB) - thanks so much Cal!

The World Bank is an evil, hypocritical organization. I once worked there (I was seconded by a U.S. company who employed me in the capital region. Everywhere there were signs that said "Our dream is a world free of hunger". SO one day I asked the guys who was the President of the World Bank (at a tea to which I was invited) how it was that the WB had blown though 50 billion dollars in I think it was 50 years and yet hadn't made even a dent in the hunger problem.

I wasn't there much longer ... but I had planned that anyway. The funniest part was seeing my employers faces when they heard what I had done.

I don't have much esteem for those with lots of excess money, except in terms of what good they can do with it, Obviously, World Bank has found a way to do something quite the reverse. But they can change--if they want to.

Don't you sometimes wonder, if they realize that they have responsibilities, beyong making tons of money?
If we all would consider using both sides of our computer paper and our junk mail, think how many fewer trees would be cut down.
At first, my friends thought I was crazy.
To be perfectly honest, I have opened very few reams of paper in years.
All main is checked for a clean side.

I'm applaud by this. Its all about the greed. So they can make so much money, distorting the environment, and don't care who they stomp on in the process.

Ho firmato il 2 agosto. Come si può pensare di diminuire le protezioni? A mio avviso sono già insufficienti quelle che sono in vigore adesso.

The environment will not last, if the World Bank does this. How long do they think the rainforests will last when using the trees for homes, buildings, furniture, down to Toilet paper and Kleenex?? Strict laws are needed now and alternatives have to be sought.
