Satellite imagery released in January showed that as much as 2,700 square miles (4,345 kilometers) of the massive Brazilian Amazon was cleared between August and December of 2007-about 60 percent more land than during the same five months in 2006

Noted, poor Agnes must be rolling over in her grave!!!! As soon as she is gone this happens! For shame on the Government for allowing this to go on. Start a boycott on beef and soy from the lands raped for pasture and fields.

We need to stop the madness. We are growing crops for fuel! We must stop this. If our candidates will not adddress this, we must run for office ourselves. It is wrong to destroy rainforest just so we can have ethyl alcohol in our vehicle to travel.

We are clearing rainforests to grow crops for meat. I propose the Humane Society sell meat - this would solve all our problems.

And land is disappearing due to growth and development.

People can help by not eating meat, buying locally produced foods, reducing, recycling, re-using, taking only what you're going to use or eat, always having your canvas bags w/ you, combining trips to use less gas (like, I go shopping after a trip to the dentist or the post-office, walk as much as possible, buy clothes that don't need dry cleaning, etc... All these things are like a web; they all touch each other.

What would help is if the Brazilian government controlled its own citizens. Can you image anywhere else in the world, in this day and age, where people are allowed to just take land they don't own and chop down forests. In Britain they would be thrown in prison!
