Arctic ice is melting fast and the area covered by ice sheets in ocean could shrink this summer to the smallest since 1978 when satellite observation first started, Japanese scientists warned in a report.

"Could"....but will it?

Remember, in the 1970's they were expecting a "New Ice Age", so monitoring started when Arctic ice was pretty extensive. Now that it seems to be cooling, it just may go back to higher levels.

as if Japan has to warn people.. all you have to do is look at the Glacier & know that is what is happening.. too many people don't want to admit it.. sheese the Ice isn't even there much for the Polar Bears.. I watched a show the other night that had pics of the Glacier 10 years ago & now.. it was alarming gone.. maybe the Warning should be directed at the ones that need to be warned.. & can start doing something about it.. IF its not too late.. :-((

Oh, dear. Glacier growth or retreat is dependant on precipitation.

All the horror stories the media present can't change that fact.

The other fact that can not be changed is that the warming peaked in 1998 and it has been cooling since 2001.

Don't let fact get in the way of a good knicker twist though.

Hey, no sense being cautious when it comes to the possibility of Earth becoming like Venus. I mean, what's the big deal anyway?

"Remember, in the 1970's they were expecting a "New Ice Age", so monitoring started when Arctic ice was pretty extensive. Now that it seems to be cooling, it just may go back to higher levels."

That is completely false.

"Glacier growth or retreat is dependant on precipitation."

AND temperature. Stop thinking in terms of YOUR simplistic models and deal with real science, please.

"The other fact that can not be changed is that the warming peaked in 1998 and it has been cooling since 2001."

The first point refers to an extreme spike in global temperatures that happened in 1998, while the second is an outright lie. Average global temperatures in the first years of the 21st Century are still higher than in the previous two decades, according to this chart:

Judy, you are a shameless hypocrite! It was YOU who gave me that chart I just posted, yet it contradicts your last assertion here about a cooling trend.
