Our basic food plants have always been vulnerable to attack from new strains of disease or pests and the result is often mass hunger and starvation, as anyone who remembers their school history of the Irish Potato Famine will know

what can we do? We can produce a variety of food, every known crop - so that not everything can be destroyed. We can irradiate our food to preserve for future use.

We can also stop groups like Monsanto from trying to take away all reproducing seeds and replacing them with genetically modified ones that only produce for one season! Start buying and stocking up on heirloom seeds now while you still can. If we don't, Monsanto will have control of our food supplies...and those who control that, control the world.

The end of the bible is near? GREAT!

On a less silly and more meaningful note, please recognize that in its native environment and not monocultured, the potato was never seriously disturbed.
Commonly, introduced species go through an initial period wherein they displace and disturb living communities. Sooner or later, following the change in the disturbed ecological system, another balance occurs.

We're all gonna die, but not at once or together. Get used to it.
Life itself is magnificent! Look to this day, this moment, and love the reality around you. This is the greatest beauty, and its ephemerality teaches us. (But don't love Monsanto! Do love Rebecca.)
